Volleyball Scores Pair of Victories

Pioneers Defeat John Jay and Cedar Crest

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson volleyball team (12-7) posted a pair of victories at its home tri-match Oct. 8, defeating John Jay (6-8) by a 3-1 count and Cedar Crest (6-9), 3-0.
 
The Pioneers started the day with a 25-22, 23-25, 25-12, 25-18 victory against the Bloodhounds. Sophomore outside hitter Christine Griffith (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) posted 10 kills and 15 digs, and sophomore setter Kendall Caruso (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) had 34 assists and 10 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Amanda Lembo (North Haledon, N.J./DePaul Catholic) registered 12 kills and seven digs, junior libero Julianna Ginefra (Springfield, N.J./Jonathan Dayton) finished with 12 digs, and freshman outside/middle hitter Alyson Toman (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) had 11 kills.
 
Junior outside hitter Rachel Eng led John Jay with 18 kills and 14 digs, while senior setter Katrina Zapanta dished 45 assists.
 
WP finished the day with a 25-12, 25-14, 25-11 win against the Falcons. Toman put down a match-best 15 kills, while Caruso had 30 assists. Griffith collected eight kills and 10 digs, and sophomore outside hitter Katelyn Schlemm (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) finished with 10 digs.
 
Senior outside hitter Maggie Olock led Cedar Crest with eight kills, freshman setter Steph Barr tallied 21 assists and nine digs, and freshman libero Jacey Ludlam had 12 digs.
 
William Paterson will host Farmingdale State Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 7:00 p.m.
