Video Highlights

WAYNE, N.J. – A strong first half fueled by goals from three different Pioneers gave the William Paterson field hockey team (8-9) a lead that would not be relinquished as it defeated Drew (4-12), 3-2, Oct. 26.

WP jumped out to a 1-0 advantage in the eighth minute when senior midfielder Meghin Stanton (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington Regional) slotted a shot inside the left post off an assist from freshman midfielder Shannon Super (Oaklyn, N.J./Collingswood).

Sophomore forward Erin Sassaman (Belvidere, N.J./Belvidere) gathered a loose ball in the right corner before connecting with junior forward Katie Stetser (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West), who redirected the pass inside the left post for a 2-0 lead at the 21:15 mark.

Stetser added an assist in WP's third and decisive goal as she put a pass into the box for senior forward Maureen Gill (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional) to tuck inside the left post in the 27th minute.

Junior forward Madi Sheetz scored on freshman midfielder Sami Strathern's pass from the right wing, cutting the WP lead to 3-1 in the 39th minute.

At the 49:15 mark, freshman midfielder Anniek van der Klij gathered a loose ball in the circle before finding the back of the cage, but WP would cling to the 3-2 advantage the rest of the way.

WP held the shots on goal margin, 6-5.
