Volleyball Sweeps to Pair of Victories

Pioneers Defeat Sarah Lawrence, Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The William Paterson volleyball team (14-9) earned a pair of 3-0 victories Oct. 15, defeating Sarah Lawrence (12-9) and host Staten Island (6-11).
 
The Pioneers started the day with a 25-11, 25-5, 25-12 triumph against the Gryphons. Sophomore outside hitter Christine Griffith (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) led all players with 14 kills, while freshman outside/middle hitter Alyson Toman (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) put down 11 kills. Sophomore setter Kendall Caruso (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) contributed 23 assists and 17 digs, and junior libero Julianna Ginefra (Springfield, N.J./Jonathan Dayton) tallied 17 digs.
 
Senior middle blocker Monet Thibou paced Sarah Lawrence with five kills. Senior outside hitter Clarisse Taboy collected 17 digs, and sophomore setter CJ Kelley had 13 assists.
 
WP registered a 25-9, 25-10, 25-11 win against the Dolphins. Sophomore outside hitter Amanda Lembo (North Haledon, N.J./DePaul Catholic) nearly had a double-double with nine kills and 10 digs, and Toman added nine kills. Griffith contributed 14 digs, Ginefra finished with 11 digs, and Caruso posted 25 assists and eight digs.
 
Senior outside hitter Siobhan Granich led CSI with five kills, adding 10 digs, while senior libero Victoria Wong tallied 24 digs. Sophomore setter Cassidy Iannariello registered nine assists.
 
William Paterson will host Rutgers-Newark Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 7:00 p.m.
