Volleyball Drops Pair of Matches at MSMC Tri-Match

Pioneers Lose to Knights, MCLA

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The William Paterson volleyball team (9-6) dropped a pair of matches at the Mount Saint Mary tri-match Oct. 1. The Pioneers fell to the host Knights (8-12), 3-1, and Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (8-9), 3-2.
 
The Pioneers won the first set 25-15 at MSMC, but fell short in the next three, 25-20, 25-23 and 25-23. Sophomore middle hitter Chelliah Phillips (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) led WP with 12 kills, while junior libero Julianna Ginefra (Springfield, N.J./Jonathan Dayton) collected a team-best 21 digs. Sophomore setter Kendall Caruso (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) finished with 37 assists and 14 digs, sophomore outside hitter Amanda Lembo (North Haledon, N.J./DePaul Catholic) had a double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs, and freshman libero Kristina Ulrich (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) added 12 kills.
 
Senior outside hitter Rachel Sabatini posted 23 kills and 21 digs for the Knights, senior setter Kristen Maddock dished 38 assists, and freshman libero Madelyn Barberan added 24 digs.
 
WP opened its match with MCLA with two identical 25-22 wins, but dropped the final three sets 25-17, 27-25 and 15-8. Phillips put down 14 kills, Lembo contributed 12 kills and 10 digs, and Caruso had 37 assists. Ginefra and sophomore outside hitter Christine Griffith (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) each collected 12 digs, while freshman outside/middle hitter Alyson Toman (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) chipped in 10 kills.
 
Senior outside hitter Allison Clark finished with 31 kills and 22 digs for the Trailblazers, and sophomore setter Beatrice Lechler posted 48 assists.
 
William Paterson will host Stockton Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 7:00 p.m.
