Kendall Caruso (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) had a double-double with match bests of 31 assists and 10 digs as William Paterson (5-3, 1-1 NJAC) swept New Jersey City (5-3, 0-1 NJAC), 3-0, Sept. 15 in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) volleyball play.
Clinging to a one-point lead, the Pioneers reeled off four straight point to go up 21-16 in the first set and eventually come away with a 25-17 win. WP cruised from there, building a 12-3 advantage en route to a 25-10 victory in the second set, then pulled away for a 25-11 third-set win.
Senior opposite hitter
Nicole Spicer (Whiting, N.J./Manchester Twp.) contributed 12 kills, eight digs and three service aces, while senior
Michelle Merida (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) and sophomore
Julianna Ginefra (Springfield, N.J./Jonathan Dayton) each collected seven digs while splitting time at libero.
Junior middle hitter Shege Haxhaj paced the Gothic Knights with seven kills, sophomore setter Rachel McIntyre had 20 assists and senior libero Valerie Ballestas finished with nine digs.
William Paterson will host Maritime Thursday, Sept. 17, at 7:00 p.m.
