Volleyball Drops Pair of Close 3-0 Decisions

Pioneers Lose to Arcadia, Mount Saint Vincent

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The William Paterson volleyball team (4-3) dropped a pair of close 3-0 decisions at Mount Saint Vincent Sept. 12, falling to Arcadia (3-1) and the host Dolphins (2-6).
 
In the opener against the Knights, WP suffered a 25-21, 28-26, 25-21 loss. The reigning New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Player of the Week, junior outside hitter Erin Roach (Clark, N.J./Union County Vo-Tech) paced the Pioneers with 12 kills, adding nine digs, while freshman setter Kendall Caruso (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) had a double-double with 17 assists and 11 digs. Freshman outside hitter Christine Griffith (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) tallied a team-high 16 digs, and senior opposite hitter Nicole Spicer (Whiting, N.J./Manchester Twp.) had 13 digs and three service aces.
 
Junior outside hitter Makenna Micklus led Arcadia with 14 kills, sophomore libero Sami Evans posted 19 digs and junior setter Alexia Bell dished out 40 assists.
 
WP dropped a 25-22, 25-21, 25-21 decision in the finale against Mount Saint Vincent. Roach compiled a double-double with 13 digs and a team-best 13 kills, and Caruso had 26 assists. Sophomore libero Julianna Ginefra (Springfield, N.J./Jonathan Dayton) finished with 24 digs.
 
Senior middle hitter Ashleigh Scozzari led CMSV with 23 kills, sophomore setter Nicole Henderson had 43 assists, and junior outside hitter Maria Leineweber and freshman defensive specialist Chrissy Sewell each contributed 16 digs.
 
William Paterson will host New Jersey City Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 7:00 p.m.
