BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Two late free throws allowed host Brooklyn (4-2) to defeat William Paterson (3-2), 52-50, in women's basketball action Nov. 30.
In a game that featured nine lead changes and seven ties, senior forward
Alex Milne's (Howell, N.J./Howell) pair from the charity stripe handed the Pioneers a 45-44 edge with 4:01 remaining, but the Bulldogs' Olivia Colbert answered right back with a layup (46-45, 3:55). Junior center Maya Ajee-Thomas stretched the Brooklyn advantage to three with a tip-in 41 seconds later, but freshman guard
Sihana Asani (Lincoln Park, N.J./Boonton) knotted the score at 48-48 with a three-pointer with 3:00 on the clock.
Sophomore Karen Mak knocked down a jumper at the 2:28 mark, and Milne pulled WP even with a layup with 71 seconds left. A Bulldog miss and a Pioneer turnover eventually led to a William Paterson foul, and junior guard Twanda Holder sank two free throws for a 52-50 Brooklyn lead with six seconds to play.
Milne led WP with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Asani posted 11 tallies on 4-for-5 (.800) shooting from off the bench.
