WAYNE, N.J. – Five Pioneers were double winners as the William Paterson tennis team (1-2, 1-1 NJAC) registered an 8-1 victory against Rutgers-Newark (0-5, 0-3 NJAC) Sept. 15 at the WP Tennis Courts.
 
Sophomore all-American Brittany LaBruna (Bloomingdale, N.J./Continental Academy) earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory at first singles against Catherine Popow, while senior Kristy Daubert Cranford, N.J./Cranford) was a 6-1, 6-2 victor against Nandini Gami at third singles. Junior Caitlin Pariso (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) was a 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 winner at fourth singles over Racquel Asante, and sophomore Ashley Vidal (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) earned a 6-1, 6-2 fifth-singles victory against Kimberly Gonzalez. Junior Summer Bernales (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) rounded out singles play with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Cristina Faviano.
 
LaBruna and Daubert defeated Popow and Danielle Merritt at first doubles, 8-0. Vidal and Pariso earned an 8-2 win at second against Gami and Asante. Bernales and senior Jessica Daniels (Edison, N.J./Edison) were 8-0 winners at third doubles against Gonzalez and Faviano.
 
William Paterson will play at Staten Island Thursday, Sept. 18, at 3:30 p.m.
