WAYNE, N.J. – Second-seeded William Paterson (27-12) dropped a 15-5 decision to third-seeded Rowan (30-12) May 2 in the second round of the double-elimination New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Baseball Tournament.

The Pioneers will play Ramapo in an NJAC Tournament elimination game Saturday, May 4, at 11:30 a.m. at top-seeded Kean University in Union, N.J.

Junior shortstop Rich Guillod (Closter, N.J./Northern Valley-Demarest) made it a 1-0 WP advantage when he launched a two-out homer over the left-field fence.

Rowan tied it up in the third thanks an Eric Perez leadoff triple down the left-field line and a C.J. Szymczak RBI-groundout.  The Profs opened up a 5-1 fourth-inning lead thanks a two-run home run by senior first baseman Sean Kelly and a bases-loaded error that allowed Perez and sophomore third baseman Kevin McMenamin to cross the plate.

A single and two walks loaded the bases for Rowan with one out during the top of the fifth inning.  Perez plated two runners with his single to left, and sophomore shortstop Ryan Williams' double added two more to the Prof lead, 9-1.

William Paterson got back three of those run during the home half of the fifth.  Freshman outfielder Tyler Garguilo (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) reached on a one-out error and senior outfielder Ryan Gibbons (Glen Rock, N.J./Glen Rock) walked before Guillod delivered a RBI-single up the middle.  Senior catcher Vin Fondacaro's (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Twp.) base hit plated Gibbons, and when Williams lost control of the ball on the transfer after a ground ball hit by junior first baseman Trevor Haughney (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge), Guillod scampered home.

Three more runs made it a 12-4 Prof advantage by the middle of the sixth.  Junior outfielder Eric Sellitto hit a RBI-single to short, Perez was issued a bases-loaded walk and Szymczak produced a run-scoring groundout.  A Nick Kreiger single, a Mark Benak RBI-double and a Casey Grimes run-scoring single were followed later by a Sellitto RBI-groundout to plate three more Rowan runs during the top half of the seventh.

Guillod singled in junior outfielder AJ Flores (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) to finish the scoring during the home half of the ninth.

Guillod led WP at the plate, finishing 3-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored.

Senior starter Steve Coral (Totowa, N.J./Passaic Valley Regional) fell to 5-3, allowing seven runs (six earned) and seven hits in 4.1 innings.  Freshman Adam Miller (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) gave up three runs in 0.2 inning, sophomore Kevin Cowan (Elizabeth, N.J./Roselle Catholic) surrendered two runs during 1.0 inning of work, and senior Matt Goitz (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) tossed 1.0 inning and allowed three runs.  Sophomore Ryan Monaghan (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) and classmate Tom Gaccione (Little Falls, N.J./Passaic Valley Regional) pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth, respectively.

Perez was 3-for-4 with a triple, three RBI and three runs scored for Rowan, and Grimes finished 3-for-6 and scored three runs.  Sophomore Ryan Easterday improved to 6-2, allowing four runs (one earned) on seven hits over 8.0 innings, striking out two and walking three.  Brian Sietsma took over for the ninth inning, surrendering three hits and one run.
