Baseball to Face Ramapo in NJAC Tournament Elimination Game Saturday at Kean

Second-Seeded Pioneers to Face Fifth-Seeded Roadrunners at 11:30 a.m.

PITMAN, N.J. – Second-seeded William Paterson (27-11, 13-5 NJAC) will play fifth-seeded Ramapo (26-13-1, 9-8-1 NJAC) in an elimination game of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Baseball Tournament Saturday, May 4, at 11:30 a.m. at top-seeded Kean University in Union, N.J.  The winner will advance to the 2:30 p.m. game and play the loser of Saturday's contest between No. 5/5 Kean (32-4, 14-4) and third-seeded Rowan (30-12, 12-6 NJAC) to be played at 8:30 a.m.  Live statistics and live video will be available.

General Admission is $5.00. Students, children 12 and under, and senior citizens will be admitted for $2.00.  Parking is only permitted in Kean University parking lots.  If you chose to park in the adjacent New Jersey Transit train station parking lot, you must pay a daily parking fee.  Union Township will ticket, including weekends.

The Pioneers, 1-1 in the double-elimination tourney, are coming off a 15-5 home loss against Rowan May 2, while the No. 26 Roadrunners eliminated sixth-seeded The College of New Jersey (17-22, 8-10 NJAC), 10-6.  The two teams met each other in the NJAC Tournament first round April 30, a 6-1 home victory for William Paterson.

William Paterson is looking to win its 12th NJAC Tournament title (1982, 1983, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997). 

A first-team all-NJAC selection, junior outfielder AJ Flores (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) leads the Pioneers with a .385 average (fourth in league), a .453 on-base percentage (fourth in NJAC) and 19 stolen bases, adding 26 RBI and 39 runs scored (tied-third in conference).  Junior infielder Rich Guillod (Closter, N.J./Northern Valley-Demarest) is hitting .361 with a team-high .609 slugging percentage (second in league), 12 doubles (tied-fifth in NJAC), five home runs (tied-third in NJAC) and 41 RBI (tied-first in conference), chipping in three triples (tied-third in league), 13 steals and 26 runs scored.  He was an honorable-mention all-conference selection, as was junior infielder Trevor Haughney (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge), who has a .341 average, nine doubles, 17 RBI and 25 runs scored.  Second-team all-NJAC senior catcher Vin Fondacaro (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Twp.) has posted a .329 average, 11 doubles and 34 RBI (fifth in conference).       

An honorable-mention all-conference pick, senior Tim O'Shea (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Twp.) is 6-1 with a 1.85 ERA (sixth in conference) in seven starts and 10 appearances, striking out 49 hitters in 58.1 innings.  Classmate Steve Coral (Totowa, N.J./Passaic Valley Regional) has a 5-3 record and 3.31 ERA in 10 starts, striking out 38 hitters in 65.1 innings, while junior Josh Jensen (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) is 4-2 with a 4.89 ERA in eight starts.  The NJAC Fireman of the Year, freshman Frankie Colasante (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) is 2-1 with a league-best 1.19 ERA and six saves in 12 relief appearances.  

William Paterson was 29-13 overall and 11-7 in league play last season, qualifying for the 2012 NJAC Tournament.
