Baseball to Host Rowan in NJAC Tournament Second Round Thursday

Second-Seeded Pioneers to Face Third-Seeded Profs at 3:30 p.m.

PITMAN, N.J. – Second-seeded William Paterson (27-11, 13-5 NJAC) will host third-seeded Rowan (29-12, 12-6 NJAC) in the second round of the double-elimination New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Baseball Tournament Thursday, May 2, at 3:30 p.m. Live statistics will be available.

The first 100 William Paterson students with valid ID will be admitted for free, courtesy of the Student Government Association.  General Admission is $5.00. Students, children 12 and under, and senior citizens will be admitted for $2.00.  Pets are not permitted at WP athletic facilities.

The Pioneers are coming off a 6-1 victory against fifth-seeded Ramapo (25-13-1, 9-8-1 NJAC) April 30, while the Profs defeated fourth-seeded Richard Stockton (23-17, 11-7 NJAC), 13-0, in the first round.

Top-seeded Kean (31-8, 14-4 NJAC) will host the remainder of the tournament Saturday and Sunday, May 4-5.  The pairings and game times for Saturday will be determined after the conclusion of Thursday's play that also includes Kean hosting Richard Stockton as well as Ramapo hosting sixth-seeded The College of New Jersey (17-21, 8-10 NJAC) in an elimination game.

William Paterson is looking to win its 12th NJAC Tournament title (1982, 1983, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997).  Earlier this season, the Pioneers split a road doubleheader against the Profs, 3-2 and 2-6, on April 6.

Junior outfielder AJ Flores (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) leads the Pioneers with a .391 average (third in league), a .460 on-base percentage (third in NJAC) and 19 stolen bases, adding 26 RBI and 38 runs scored (tied-second in conference).  Junior infielder Rich Guillod (Closter, N.J./Northern Valley-Demarest) is hitting .352 with a team-high .586 slugging percentage (fifth in league), 12 doubles (fifth in NJAC) and 38 RBI (third in conference), chipping in three triples (tied-second in league), four home runs (tied-fourth in NJAC), 13 steals and 24 runs scored.  Junior infielder Trevor Haughney (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) has a .351 average, adding nine doubles, 17 RBI and 25 runs scored, while senior catcher Vin Fondacaro (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Twp.) has posted a .331 average, 11 doubles and 33 RBI (fifth in conference).        

Senior Steve Coral (Totowa, N.J./Passaic Valley Regional) has a 5-2 record and 2.66 ERA in nine starts, striking out 37 hitters in 61.0 innings.  Freshman Frankie Colasante (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) is 2-1 with a 1.19 ERA (first in NJAC) and a league-best six saves in 12 relief appearances.
  
William Paterson was 29-13 overall and 11-7 in league play last season, qualifying for the 2012 NJAC Tournament.
