Baseball to Start NJAC Tournament Play at Home Tuesday

Second-Seeded Pioneers to Host Fifth-Seeded Ramapo at 3:30 p.m.

PITMAN, N.J. – Second-seeded William Paterson (26-11, 13-5 NJAC) will host fifth-seeded Ramapo (25-11-1, 9-8-1 NJAC) in the opening round of the double-elimination New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Baseball Tournament Tuesday, April 30, at 3:30 p.m. Live statistics will be available.

The first 100 William Paterson students with valid ID will be admitted for free, courtesy of the Student Government Association.  General Admission is $5.00. Students, children 12 and under, and senior citizens will be admitted for $2.00.  Pets are not permitted at WP athletic facilities.

The winner of Tuesday's WP/Ramapo game will play the winner of the No. 3 Rowan vs. No. 4 Richard Stockton first-round game on Thursday, May 2, at 3:30 p.m. at the higher seed's home field.  The loser of Tuesday's WP/Ramapo contest will face the loser of the No. 6 The College of New Jersey vs. No. 1 Kean first-round game May 2 at 3:30 p.m.  The highest remaining seed after May 2's play will host the remainder of the tournament Saturday and Sunday, May 4-5.

William Paterson is looking to win its 12th NJAC Tournament title (1982, 1983, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997).  Earlier this season, the Pioneers swept the No. 13/5 Roadrunners, 7-2 in Mahwah (April 4) and 6-5 in Wayne (April 5).

The Pioneers are 26-11 overall and 13-5 in the NJAC following a 5-3, 5-4 sweep of visiting Rutgers-Newark (8-31, 3-15 NJAC) April 27.  WP enters the NJAC Tournament riding a six-game win streak.

Junior outfielder AJ Flores (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) leads the Pioneers with a .395 average (first in league), a .462 on-base percentage (third in NJAC) and 19 stolen bases, adding 26 RBI and 37 runs scored (tied-third in conference).  Junior infielder Trevor Haughney (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) has a .351 average, adding nine doubles, 17 RBI and 24 runs scored, while junior third baseman Rich Guillod (Closter, N.J./Northern Valley-Demarest) is hitting .341 with a team-high .561 slugging percentage (fifth in league), 12 doubles (fifth in NJAC) and 36 RBI (third in conference), chipping in three triples (tied-second in league), three home runs, 13 steals and 22 runs scored.   Senior catcher Vin Fondacaro (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Twp.) has posted a .341 average, 11 doubles and 33 RBI (fifth in NJAC).        

Senior Steve Coral (Totowa, N.J./Passaic Valley Regional) has a 5-2 record and 2.66 ERA in nine starts, striking out 37 hitters in 61.0 innings.  Classmate Tim O'Shea (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Twp.) is 5-1 with a 2.01 ERA (seventh in conference) in six starts and nine appearances, striking out 39 hitters in 49.1 innings.  Freshman Frankie Colasante (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) is 2-1 with a 1.19 ERA (first in NJAC) and a league-best six saves in 12 relief appearances.
  
William Paterson was 29-13 overall and 11-7 in league play last season, qualifying for the 2012 NJAC Tournament.
