BOX SCORE
EWING, N.J. – William Paterson's (18-6, 6-1 NJAC) pitchers combined to allow just one hit as the Pioneers earned a 4-2 baseball victory at The College of New Jersey (12-12, 4-3 NJAC) April 11.
WP handed the Lions a 2-0 first-inning lead with two walks, a wild pitch and an error. The Pioneers halved the deficit during the top of the second thanks to junior designated hitter
Rich Guillod's (Closter, N.J./Northern Valley-Demarest) solo home run over the left-field fence, and threatened for more, but a bases-loaded double play ended the frame.
Three runs in the fifth gave William Paterson a 4-2 advantage. Senior outfielder
Ryan Gibbons (Glen Rock, N.J./Glen Rock) started the inning with a walk and advanced to second via a balk. Following a groundout, junior outfielder
AJ Flores (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) singled to right center to plate Gibbons. Junior first baseman
Trevor Haughney (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) sent a two-out base hit up the middle, and Guillod drove in both runners with a double to right field.
Senior
Tim O'Shea (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Twp.) worked out of a bases-loaded jam with one out during the home half of the same frame, getting a popup in foul territory and a groundout. But, he had to be lifted with the bases loaded and one out in the seventh, and freshman reliever
Adam Miller (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) kept it a two-run game when he forced a foulout to first and a line drive that was caught by freshman left fielder
Tyler Garguilo (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) in the gap. After the leadoff batter in the eighth was walked, freshman
Frankie Colasante (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) entered and retired five of the six batters he faced for his third save of the year.
Guillod was 2-for-4 with a home run, double and three RBI, while junior shortstop
Rob Pasternak (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) finished 3-for-4. Sophomore third baseman
Mike Arnold (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) went 2-for-3 and Flores was 2-for-5 and scored a run.
O'Shea allowed two unearned runs without a hit in 6.1 innings, walking nine and striking out three (4-0). Miller walked one in 0.2 inning, and Colasante surrendered an eighth-inning single, striking out one in 2.0 innings.
Joe Dispoto accounted for TCNJ's lone hit of the game. Starter Robert Schneider fell to 1-3, giving up four runs and eight hits in 5.0 innings.
William Paterson will host The College of New Jersey Friday, April 12, at 3:30 p.m.
