Trevor Haughney was 2-for-4 with two RBI during a 7-1 victory against Springfield.
BOX SCORE

WINTER HAVEN, FLA. – Senior Tim O'Shea (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Twp.) tossed eight innings of one-run ball and the William Paterson baseball team (6-2) eased past Springfield (1-2), 7-1, March 18 in Winter Haven, Fla.

The Pride used a single, walk, wild pitch and groundout to strike first, crossing the plate during their first at-bat of the contest.

During the home half of the fourth, senior outfielder Ryan Gibbons (Glen Rock, N.J./Glen Rock) hit a one-out single to center, sophomore designated hitter Mike Arnold (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) walked and junior third baseman Rich Guillod (Closter, N.J./Northern Valley-Demarest) drove in Gibbons with a base hit through the left side.  Junior first baseman Trevor Haughney (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) plated Arnold with a groundout, making it a 2-1 WP lead.

Freshman shortstop K.C. Abel (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) started the bottom of the fifth with a single and was sacrificed to second by freshman outfielder Tyler Garguilo (Paramus, N.J./Paramus).  Junior outfielder AJ Flores' (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) bunt was good enough for a base hit and he promptly stole second.  Junior second baseman Scott Ptaszynski (Wharton, N.J./Morris Hills) lifted a fly ball to center, a sac fly that sent home Abel, and Gibbons' single drove in Flores for a 4-1 score.

The Pioneers added two more runs in the sixth.  Guillod led off with a single and Haughney hit an RBI-double to left-center field.  He was sacrificed to third and later scored thanks to a Garguilo squeeze.

An Arnold single and Guillod double finished the scoring with a single seventh-inning run.

Guillod was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored, while Arnold was 2-for-3 and scored twice.  Flores, Gibbons, Haughney and Garguilo each contributed a pair of hits.

O'Shea (2-0) struck out six and walked two over 8.0 innings, allowing one run on eight hits.  Freshman Frankie Colasante (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) struck out two of the three hitters he faced in the ninth.

Senior Kyle DiFranco led Springfield at the plate, finishing 2-for-4.  Junior Eric Chase took the loss (0-1), allowing six runs on 11 hits in 5.1 innings.

William Paterson will play Clarkson Tuesday, March 19, at 11:00 a.m.
