Football to Celebrate Senior Day, Collect for "Cans Across the Conference" Nov. 9 vs. TCNJ

Pioneers Will Host Lions at 1:00 p.m.

William Paterson (3-6, 1-5 NJAC) finishes its season and celebrates Senior Day Saturday, Nov. 9, when the Pioneers host The College of New Jersey (4-4, 3-2 NJAC) at 1:00 p.m. The Senior Day ceremony will begin at 12:30 p.m. Live statistics will be available, and a live audio broadcast will be provided by WP Brave New Radio 88.7 FM. Fans are asked to bring non-perishable food items to the game to donate to the New Jersey Athletic Conference's "Cans Across the Conference" food drive.

Scouting the Pioneers
William Paterson is 3-6 overall and 1-5 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) following a 40-13 loss at Montclair State (3-5, 2-3 NJAC) Nov. 2.

Senior quarterback Ryan Gresik (Newton, N.J./Newton), a member of the 2012 All-NJAC Team Honorable Mention, is 203-for-338 for 2,415 yards (268.3 yards/game; second in league, 26th in Division III), completing 17 touchdown passes to eight different teammates while running for three scores himself. His 271.2 yards of total offense per game rate third in the conference and 44th nationally, while his 22.56 completions per game rank 22nd in Division III. The Sept. 8 and Sept. 29 NJAC Offensive Player of the Week, he is WP's career leader in completions (569), attempts (969), yardage (6,484) and touchdowns (40).

Sophomore Matt Deiana (Somers, N.Y./Somers) paces the ground game with 77 carries for 377 yards and a touchdown. Classmate Darius Kersey (Dover, N.J./Dover) has rushed 58 times for 205 yards and five scores, and has caught 22 passes for 336 yards and five TDs.

Senior wide receiver Mick Paye (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) is the Pioneers' leader in receptions (42) and yardage (687; 76.3 per game, third in NJAC), finding the end zone three times. Senior wide receiver/punter Julian Frazier (Plainfield, N.J./North Plainfield) has hauled in 29 passes for 290 yards and four scores, while senior tight end Brian Winfield (Newton, N.J./Newton) has caught 28 passes for 238 yards and a touchdown.

Senior linebacker David Zurla (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) leads the Pioneers with 76 tackles (39 solo, 6.0 TFL) and 3.0 sacks. He ranks ninth in the NJAC with 8.4 stops per contest. Junior linebacker Ben Allen (Ventnor, N.J./Atlantic City) has made 64 tackles (37 solo, 3.0 sacks), 12.0 tackles for a loss (1.33 per game, fourth in league), forced a fumble and blocked a PAT, and junior defensive back Elijah DeGuzman (Pennsauken, N.J./Pennsauken) has collected 61 stops (33 solo, 4.5 TFL), forced two fumbles and returned one for a touchdown. Junior defensive lineman Pat Thomas (Lodi, N.J./Lodi) has tallied 57 stops (28 solo, 10.0 TFL, 2.5 sacks) and is ninth in the conference with 1.11 tackles for a loss per game.

Frazier, the Sept. 8 and Sept. 22 NJAC Special Teams Player of the Week, has punted 54 times for an average of 42.5 yards (first in NJAC, second in Division III).

Junior placekicker Robert Sinegra (Wharton, N.J./Morris Knolls), an honorable-mention all-NJAC selection in 2011, is 29-for-30 on PATs and 7-for-10 on field-goal attempts this fall. The Oct. 6 NJAC Special Teams Player of the Week, freshman Jerome Alexander (Montclair, N.J./Glen Ridge) has returned 13 kickoffs for an average of 33.1 yards (first in league, sixth nationally), including one for a 91-yard touchdown. Junior Mike Vannucci (Bethpage, N.Y./Plainedge) is fourth in the conference in punt return average (8.7 yards/return).

William Paterson returned five offensive starters and four defensive starters from a 2012 team that finished 5-5 overall and 2-5 in NJAC play. The Pioneers, who welcomed back 49 letterwinners and two all-conference selections, were predicted to finish sixth in the 2013 NJAC Preseason Coaches Poll.

Scouting the Lions
The College of New Jersey is 4-4 overall and 3-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) following a 14-3 loss against Brockport (5-3, 4-1 NJAC) Nov. 2.

Sophomore quarterback Christopher Spellman is 47-for-112 for 680 yards, five touchdowns and 11 interceptions under center, and classmate Sam Paladino is 32-for-67 for 276 yards, one TD and four INTs.

Sophomore running back Victor Scalici leads the rushing attack with 131 carries for 554 yards and five touchdowns (69.2 yards/game, eighth in conference).

Senior wide receiver Frederick Sprengel has caught a team-leading 22 passes for 288 yards and one touchdown, while junior wide receiver Kyle Janeczek has 15 receptions for 176 yards and two scores.

Senior linebacker Nick Bricker paces the defense with 97 tackles (59 solo, 12.0 TFL, 1.5 sacks), adding two fumbles forced and one recovered. He leads the league with 12.1 stops per game. Junior linebacker Ryan Lowe has tallied 69 tackles (35 solo, 2.5 TFL; 8.6 stops/game, seventh in NJAC), posting 2.5 sacks and an interception. Senior linebacker Sean Clark has collected 35 tackles (19 solo) and a fumble recovered.

Sophomore Evan Costello has punted 46 times for an average of 37.8 yards (third in NJAC), and is 1-for-4 on field-goal attempts and 11-for-14 on PATs. Senior Matthew Chierici is averaging 22.8 yards per kickoff return (third in league) and 6.5 yards per punt return.

TCNJ finished 4-6 overall and 3-5 in conference play last season.
