Football to Finish Three-Game Homestand Oct. 12

Pioneers to Face Brockport at 12:00 p.m.

William Paterson (2-3, 0-2 NJAC) finishes a three-game homestand Saturday, Oct. 12, when the Pioneers host Brockport (1-3, 0-1 NJAC) at 12:00 p.m. Live statistics will be available, and a live audio broadcast will be provided by WP Brave New Radio 88.7 FM. The Wayne Hills High School Marching Band is scheduled to perform during halftime, weather permitting.

Scouting the Pioneers
William Paterson is 2-3 overall and 0-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) following a 51-48 loss against Morrisville State (2-2, 1-0 NJAC) Oct. 5.

Senior quarterback Ryan Gresik (Newton, N.J./Newton), a member of the 2012 All-NJAC Team Honorable Mention, is 103-for-203 for 1,557 yards (311.4 yards/game; first in league, 11th in Division III), completing 13 touchdown passes to seven different teammates while running for a pair of scores himself. His 306.0 yards of total offense per game rate third in the conference and 30th nationally, while his 26.60 completions per game rank 14th in Division III. The Sept. 8 and Sept. 29 NJAC Offensive Player of the Week, he is WP's career leader in completions (499), attempts (834), yardage (5,626) and touchdowns (36).

Sophomore Matt Deiana (Somers, N.Y./Somers) paces the ground game with 37 carries for 174 yards and a touchdown.

Senior wide receiver Mick Paye (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) is the Pioneers' leader in receptions (28) and yardage (460; 92.0 per game, third in NJAC), finding the end zone three times. Senior wide receiver/punter Julian Frazier (Plainfield, N.J./North Plainfield) has hauled in 20 passes for 224 yards and two scores, while senior tight end Brian Winfield (Newton, N.J./Newton) has caught 23 passes for 208 yards and a touchdown (5.8 receptions/game, fifth in league).

Senior linebacker David Zurla (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) leads the Pioneers with 47 tackles (22 solo, 5.0 TFL) and 3.0 sacks. He ranks sixth in the NJAC with 9.4 tackles per contest. Junior linebacker Ben Allen (Ventnor, N.J./Atlantic City) has made 41 stops (25 solo, 1.0 sack), 7.0 tackles for a loss (1.40 per game; tied-third in league), forced a fumble and blocked a PAT, and junior defensive back Elijah DeGuzman (Pennsauken, N.J./Pennsauken) has collected 35 tackles (21 solo, 3.5 TFL), forced two fumbles and returned one for a touchdown. Senior defensive lineman Webb Geer (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) has chipped in 32 tackles (15 solo) and a blocked extra point.

Frazier, the Sept. 8 and Sept. 22 NJAC Special Teams Player of the Week, has punted 25 times for an average of 42.6 yards (first in NJAC, fifth in Division III). Junior placekicker Robert Sinegra (Wharton, N.J./Morris Knolls), an honorable-mention all-NJAC selection in 2011, is 20-for-21 on PATs and 3-for-6 on field-goal attempts this fall. The Oct. 6 NJAC Special Teams Player of the Week, freshman Jerome Alexander (Montclair, N.J./Glen Ridge) has returned eight kickoffs for an average of 34.8 yards (second in conference, sixth nationally), including one for a 91-yard touchdown.

William Paterson returned five offensive starters and four defensive starters from a 2012 team that finished 5-5 overall and 2-5 in NJAC play. The Pioneers, who welcomed back 49 letterwinners and two all-conference selections, were predicted to finish sixth in the 2013 NJAC Preseason Coaches Poll.

Scouting the Golden Eagles
Brockport is 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) following a 20-16 loss against Rowan (3-1, 2-0 NJAC) Oct. 5.

Sophomore quarterback Ty Stoldt is 91-for-159 for 1,154 yards, 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions under center. His 288.5 passing yards per contest rank second in the league.

Junior running back Tyrone Nichols leads the rushing attack with 86 carries for 351 yards and five touchdowns (87.8 yards/game, third in conference).

Senior wide receiver Jake Spalik has caught 21 passes for a team-leading 273 yards and five touchdowns (68.2 yards/game, fifth in NJAC), while senior wide receiver Darryl Thompson has eight receptions for 232 yards and two scores.

Junior defensive back Colby Morabito paces the defense with 36 stops (27 solo, 2.5 TFL, 2.0 sacks) and a fumble forced. He rates ninth in the conference with 9.0 stops per contest. Senior defensive back Ross Ragonesi has 24 tackles (17 solo) and two interceptions, while junior defensive back Anthony Bianchi has collected 22 stops (12 solo) and an interception.

Sophomore James Quinn has punted 11 times for an average of 28.0 yards. Freshman Tyler Perna is 13-for-15 on PATs and 1-for-2 on field-goal attempts this fall. Thompson is averaging 12.3 yards (second in league) on seven punt returns and 15.8 yards on 11 kickoff returns.

Brockport finished 6-4 overall and 4-4 in conference play last season.
