William Paterson is 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) following a 21-20 victory at Kean (1-5, 0-3 NJAC) Oct. 19.
Senior quarterback
Ryan Gresik (Newton, N.J./Newton), a member of the 2012 All-NJAC Team Honorable Mention, is 167-for-261 for 1,996 yards (285.1 yards/game; second in league, 20th in Division III), completing 16 touchdown passes to eight different teammates while running for three scores himself. His 290.9 yards of total offense per game rate third in the conference and 32nd nationally, while his 23.86 completions per game rank 19th in Division III. The Sept. 8 and Sept. 29 NJAC Offensive Player of the Week, he is WP's career leader in completions (533), attempts (892), yardage (6,065) and touchdowns (39).
Sophomore
Matt Deiana (Somers, N.Y./Somers) paces the ground game with 59 carries for 266 yards and a touchdown.
Senior wide receiver
Mick Paye (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) is the Pioneers' leader in receptions (36) and yardage (532; 76.0 per game, third in NJAC), finding the end zone three times. Senior wide receiver/punter
Julian Frazier (Plainfield, N.J./North Plainfield) has hauled in 25 passes for 263 yards and four scores, while senior tight end
Brian Winfield (Newton, N.J./Newton) has caught 24 passes for 218 yards and a touchdown.
Senior linebacker
David Zurla (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) leads the Pioneers with 62 tackles (29 solo, 5.0 TFL) and 3.0 sacks. He ranks seventh in the NJAC with 8.9 stops per contest. Junior defensive back
Elijah DeGuzman (Pennsauken, N.J./Pennsauken) has collected 52 stops (31 solo, 4.0 TFL), forced two fumbles and returned one for a touchdown, and junior linebacker
Ben Allen (Ventnor, N.J./Atlantic City) has made 51 tackles (29 solo, 1.0 sack), 9.5 tackles for a loss (1.36 per game, fourth in league), forced a fumble and blocked a PAT. Junior defensive lineman
Pat Thomas (Lodi, N.J./Lodi) has tallied 41 stops (21 solo, 7.5 TFL, 2.5 sacks) and is ninth in the conference with 1.07 tackles for a loss per game.
Frazier, the Sept. 8 and Sept. 22 NJAC Special Teams Player of the Week, has punted 38 times for an average of 41.8 yards (second in NJAC, sixth in
Division III).
Junior placekicker

Jerome Alexander (Montclair, N.J./Glen Ridge) has returned eight kickoffs for an average of 34.8 yards (first in league, fourth nationally), including one for a 91-yard touchdown.
William Paterson returned five offensive starters and four defensive starters from a 2012 team that finished 5-5 overall and 2-5 in NJAC play. The Pioneers, who welcomed back 49 letterwinners and two all-conference selections, were predicted to finish sixth in the 2013 NJAC Preseason Coaches Poll.
Scouting the Profs
Rowan is 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) following a 24-17 victory against No. 11 Wesley (5-2) Oct. 19.
Sophomore quarterback Paul Hamersma is 95-for-181 for 928 yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions under center. His 154.7 passing yards per contest rank sixth in the league.
Sophomore running back Withler Marcelin leads the rushing attack with 127 carries for 601 yards and five touchdowns (100.2 yards/game, second in conference).
Junior wide receiver Ed Eisenhart has caught 37 passes for a team-leading 390 yards and four touchdowns (65.0 yards/game, sixth in NJAC), while sophomore wide receiver Frankie Goris has 14 receptions for 235 yards and a score.
Sophomore linebacker Darren Dungee paces the defense and is third in the league with 9.7 stops per game (58 total, 20 solo, 4.0 TFL, 1.0 sack), adding an interception. Senior linebacker Dominic Caruso is tied for fourth in the conference with 9.5 tackles per contest (57 total, 24 solo, 5.5 TFL), posting 3.0 sacks (0.50 per game, tied-sixth in NJAC) and two interceptions. Junior defensive lineman Chris Alvarez is tied for eighth in the league with 8.7 stops per game (52 total, 23 solo), registering 8.0 tackles for a loss (1.35 per contest, seventh in conference), 6.0 sacks (1.00 per game, second in NJAC), five fumbles forced (first in league) and an interception.
Freshman Mark Diedrichsen has punted 32 times for an average of 41.9 yards (first in NJAC). Senior Dan Dawson is 12-for-13 on PATs and 1-for-1 on field-goal attempts this fall. Eisenhart is averaging 10.3 yards on four punt returns, and senior Matt Dortch is averaging 22.4 yards (fifth in NJAC) on seven kickoff returns.
Rowan finished 7-3 overall and 6-1 in conference play last season, reaching the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
