Football to Host Morrisville State on "Take a Kid to the Game Day" Oct. 5

Pioneers, Mustangs to Play in NJAC Clash at 12:00 p.m.

William Paterson (2-2, 0-1 NJAC) celebrates "Take a Kid to the Game Day" Saturday, Oct. 5, when the Pioneers host Morrisville State (1-2, 0-0 NJAC) at 12:00 p.m. All children under the age of 12 will be admitted for free. Live statistics will be available, and a live audio broadcast will be provided by WP Brave New Radio 88.7 FM.

Scouting the Pioneers
William Paterson is 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) following a 49-23 Homecoming victory against Maritime (0-3) Sept. 28.

Senior quarterback Ryan Gresik (Newton, N.J./Newton), a member of the 2012 All-NJAC Team Honorable Mention, is 99-for-151 for 1,038 yards (third in NJAC, 16th in Division III), completing eight touchdown passes to six different teammates while running for a pair of scores himself. His 24.75 completions per game rate 19th nationally. The Sept. 8 and Sept. 29 NJAC Offensive Player of the Week, he is WP's career leader in completions (465), attempts (782) and yardage (5,107).

Sophomore Matt Deiana (Somers, N.Y./Somers) leads the ground game with 26 carries for 130 yards.

Senior wide receiver Mick Paye (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) is the Pioneers' leader in receptions (21) and yardage (309; 77.2 per game, fourth in conference), finding the end zone twice. Senior tight end Brian Winfield (Newton, N.J./Newton) has caught 17 passes for 131 yards and a touchdown (5.7 receptions/game, fifth in league).

Senior linebacker David Zurla (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) leads the Pioneers with 35 tackles (18 solo, 4.5 TFL) and 3.0 sacks. He ranks ninth in the league with 8.8 tackles per contest. Junior linebacker Ben Allen (Ventnor, N.J./Atlantic City) has made 31 stops (18 solo, 1.0 sack), 6.5 tackles for a loss (second in NJAC) and blocked a PAT, and senior defensive lineman Webb Geer (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) has chipped in 25 tackles (14 solo) and a blocked extra point. Junior defensive back Elijah DeGuzman (Pennsauken, N.J./Pennsauken) has collected 24 tackles (14 solo, 3.5 TFL), forced two fumbles and returned one for a touchdown.

Senior wide receiver/punter Julian Frazier (Plainfield, N.J./North Plainfield), the Sept. 8 and Sept. 22 NJAC Special Teams Player of the Week, has punted 20 times for an average of 42.2 yards (first in NJAC, 13th in Division III). He has also caught 15 passes for 134 yards and a touchdown.

Junior placekicker Robert Sinegra (Wharton, N.J./Morris Knolls), an honorable-mention all-NJAC selection in 2011, is 14-for-14 on PATs and 3-for-5 on field-goal attempts this fall.

William Paterson returned five offensive starters and four defensive starters from a 2012 team that finished 5-5 overall and 2-5 in NJAC play. The Pioneers, who welcomed back 49 letterwinners and two all-conference selections, were predicted to finish sixth in the 2013 NJAC Preseason Coaches Poll.

Scouting the Mustangs
Morrisville State is 1-2 overall and 0-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) following a 28-23 victory against St. Lawrence (2-1) Sept. 21.

Junior quarterback Lemar Johnson is 61-for-100 for 697 yards, eight touchdowns and six interceptions under center. His 232.2 yards per game rate fourth in the conference. Sophomore running back Cristian Pena leads the rushing attack with 62 carries for 369 yards and three touchdowns (123.0 yards/game, first in league). Johnson has carried 40 times for 206 yards and a score (68.7 yards/game, fifth in NJAC). Junior wide receiver Josh Powell has caught 18 passes for a team-leading 282 yards (94.0 yards/game, second in conference) and four touchdowns, while sophomore wide receiver Anthony Gray has 18 receptions for 179 yards and three scores.

Senior linebacker Travis French paces the defense with 25 stops (13 solo, 2.0 TFL, 1.0 sack) and a fumble forced. Junior linebacker Delroy Young has 17 tackles (five solo, 3.0 TFL), while senior defensive tackle David Williams has collected 16 stops (five solo, 4.0 TFL, 2.0 sacks) and a fumble recovered.

Junior Tyler Dunworth has punted six times for an average of 24.7 yards. Classmate Zach Drake is 10-for-11 on PATs and 2-for-3 on field-goal attempts this fall.

The Mustangs finished 1-9 overall and 1-7 in conference play last season.
