Aubrey Pellerin (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) found the back of the cage twice but the William Paterson field hockey team (1-3) suffered a 5-2 loss against McDaniel (2-1) Sept. 8 at the Mary Washington Tournament.
Paige Messersmith notched a hat trick for the Green Terror, scoring in the 10th, 30th and 52nd minutes. Her second score gave McDaniel a 2-0 edge heading into halftime, and Katie Corson made it a 3-0 margin less than 10 minutes into the second period. Pellerin put WP on the board with an unassisted goal at the 49:09 mark, followed two minutes later by Messersmith's third score of the afternoon. Pellerin cut into that advantage 74 seconds later off an assist from sophomore
Courtnaey Chelf (Blackwood, N.J./Triton Regional), but Corson posted an insurance goal in the 66th minute.
Junior
Kellye Statz (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) had four saves in 52:19 of action for the Pioneers, and freshman
Megan Davies (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) made three stops while finishing out the contest in the cage. Caila White tallied three saves for McDaniel.
William Paterson will face Lynchburg Sunday, Sept. 9, at the Mary Washington Tournament at 11:00 a.m.
