BOX SCORE
VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS
WAYNE, N.J. – Senior midfielder
Dan Patton (Pennsauken, N.J./Pennsauken) scored the go-ahead goal during the 80th minute of play for William Paterson (5-4), and the Pioneers fended off a late Roadrunner surge to improve to 3-1 in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play, collecting a 2-1 home victory Sept. 26 against Ramapo (5-4, 2-2 NJAC).
Junior
Matt Nigro (Morganville, N.J./Marlboro) sent a cross to the center of the box to Patton, who battled around two Roadrunner defenders to get a clear look at the frame, firing to the bottom of the right post to break a 1-1 deadlock.
It was William Paterson that struck first, as senior
David Chase (Randolph, N.J./Morristown) fired a
Hugh Riley (Tinton Falls, N.J./Monmouth Regional) cross past Ramapo keeper Brian Petrunik at the 36:52 mark.
The Roadrunners scored the equalizer in the 61st minute when WP sophomore goalkeeper
Santiago Mesa (Paterson, N.J./Passaic County Tech) couldn't secure a loose ball and Joe Kane popped it over the Pioneer defensive players and into the back of the net. Ramapo nearly took its first lead of the match less than five minutes later when Dave Przybylo had two point-blank chances with Mesa out of the goal, but senior
Wes Ostrzycki (Edison, N.J./Edison) and sophomore
Marcus Hackett (Montclair, N.J./Immaculate Conception) were able to keep the ball from crossing the line.
Mesa and Petrunik each finished with four saves.
William Paterson will play at Rowan Saturday, Sept. 29, at 7:00 p.m.
