Nendze's Late Goal Lifts Field Hockey to 2-1 Victory

Pioneers Defeat Virginia Wesleyan Thanks to 69th-Minute Strike

DALLAS, Pa. – Junior Jessica Nendze's (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) goal with less than two minutes remaining in regulation lifted William Paterson (1-1) to a 2-1 field hockey victory against Virginia Wesleyan (0-2) Sept. 2 at Misericordia University.

Sophomore Shannon Fisher (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) scored her first career points and gave the Pioneers an early 1-0 advantage, finishing off a pass from junior Jacqui Giammetta (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) in the 15th minute.

Courtney Pollard tied the contest at the 61:12 mark, but Nendze found the back of the cage for an unassisted goal with 1:51 remaining in the second half.

Junior Kellye Statz (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) made a career-best 19 saves for WP, and senior back Shannon Thomas (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester City) had a pair of defensive saves.  Kirsten Olson posted 17 saves for Virginia Wesleyan.

William Paterson will host New Paltz Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 7:00 p.m.
