BOX SCORE
DOVER, Del. – Freshmen
McKenna Reynolds (Delran, N.J./Delran) and
Angelica Giammetta (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) score their first career goals but the William Paterson field hockey team (2-5) suffered a 3-2 loss at Wesley (4-3) Sept. 16.
The Wolverines got out to an early 2-0 lead as Madison Leone scored off a corner by Jessica Franklin in the 10th minute, followed by a score by Devin Price on a penalty stroke at the 23:19 mark. The Pioneers quickly cut that lead in half just 21 seconds later when Reynolds finished a
Jaclyn Bertos (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) pass.
Nine minutes into the second half, Lauren Mears took a pass from Renee Schneider and dribbled along the endline for a score. After Wesley went up by two goals, the Navy & White faced a barrage of Pioneer shots, and with 5:05 left, William Paterson got another goal back when Giammetta knocked in a ball from
Brianne Cox (Browns Mills, N.J./Pemberton Twp.).
Junior
Kellye Statz (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) made six saves for WP, and Elizabeth Groom had five stops for Wesley. Senior back
Shannon Thomas (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester City) collected her third defensive save of the season.
