WAYNE, N.J. –The William Paterson baseball team (20-5, 5-1 NJAC) swept a twin bill at Richard Stockton (15-10, 3-3 NJAC) behind the arms of Josh Jensen (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) and Tim O'Shea (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson), taking 6-4 and 5-2 victories on April 7.

GAME ONE
The Pioneers went ahead 1-0 in the first inning when junior Ryan Gibbons (Glen Rock, N.J./Glen Rock) led off the game with a double to left-center and came around to score on a Jack Montanile (Weehawken, N.J./Hudson Catholic) single to right-center.

Stockton answered with two runs in the bottom of the second frame.  Junior shortstop Shawn Kessler singled down the right-field line to score Marc Asta, who singled to lead off the inning.  Kessler advanced to third on a Gerard Heininger single.  Nick Scalise's RBI ground-out put the Ospreys ahead, 2-1.

Sophomore A.J. Flores (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) reached on an error, and later scored on an Adam Derner (River Edge, N.J./River Dell Regional) single to center, to knot the score at 2-2 in the top of the third.  The Pioneers added another run in the top of the fifth inning as Flores reached on a fielder's choice, and stole second.  Montanile singled to right-center allowing Flores to score, giving WP a 3-2 lead.

Senior outfielder Rob Somers (West Long Branch, N.J./Shore Regional) led off the top of the Pioneer sixth with a single to right field.  Classmate Anthony Dorio (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst) laid down the sacrifice bunt to move Somers into scoring position.  Somers moved to third on an error by the Ospreys' defense, and crossed home plate on a Scott Ptaszynski (Wharton, N.J./Morris Hills) sacrifice fly.

Junior Justin Gordon led off Stockton's eighth inning with a walk and advanced to second when Kessler laid down the sacrifice bunt.  Barry Larro's single allowed the runner to score, cutting the lead to 4-3.

Flores reached on a one-out error, and Derner blasted his 10th home run of the season to stretch the Pioneer lead to 6-3.  Senior Mike Wasco was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the frame.  Wasco moved to third on a Dan McGuckin single, and scored on Asta's single to right-center for a final 6-4 score.

Jensen recorded his fifth win of the year tossing 6.0 innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out three.  Glenn Flora (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst) picked up the save for the Pioneers, throwing 3.0 relief innings allowing one run, striking out four.

Mark Crescenzi suffered the loss for the Ospreys allowing six runs (one earned) in 8.2 innings of work.  McGuckin was 3-for-5, and Asta finished 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored.

Derner was 2-for-5 with three RBI and a home run, while Montanile went 2-for-5 with two RBI.

GAME TWO
William Paterson broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning.  Montanile led off the inning with a single to center, and advanced to second and third on a wild pitch.  Derner's sacrifice fly plated Montanile, putting the Pioneers on the board, 1-0.

Flores walked to lead off the sixth, followed by a Montanile single.  Junior catcher Vin Fondacaro (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock) loaded the bases after reaching safely on an error committed by the Ospreys' defense.  Somers floated a ball out to center field to plate Flores and extend the lead, 2-0.  The Pioneers put up another run in the top of the seventh, starting with a one-out single by freshman Mike Arnold (Dumont, N.J./Dumont).  Flores singled, and Montanile's single to center allowed Arnold to score.

The Pioneers were in business again in the top of the eighth as Fondacaro reached on a catcher's inference call, and was able to move to second on a passed ball.  Somers walked, and both runners advanced a base when Dorio laid down the sacrifice bunt.  Arnold's second hit of the game was a two-RBI single to put WP in front, 5-0.

Stockton answered in the bottom half of the frame stringing together three singles to plate a run.  Andy Oliver grounded into a fielder's choice, but an error by the Pioneer defense allowed him to reach safely and score the second run of the game to make the score 5-2.

O'Shea collected the win, tossing his second complete game of the year allowing two runs on eight hits, striking out six.  Montanile went 3-for-5 with a RBI and a run scored, and Arnold finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.
