German Decena (Union City, N.J./Emerson) and senior free safety/punt returner
Javon Hodges (Parlin, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial) led a list of six Pioneers named to the All-New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Football Teams released Nov. 16.
Decena was a first-team defensive selection, and Hodges garnered a spot on the Special Teams All-First Team. Senior tight end
Joseph Cordato (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) and senior offensive lineman
John Matthews (Pennsauken, N.J./Roman Catholic) were second-team all-offense picks, and junior defensive lineman
Webb Geer (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) and junior quarterback
Ryan Gresik (Newton, N.J./Newton) were honorable-mention selections.
Decena leads the Pioneers with 70 tackles (32 solo, 1.0 TFL) through nine games, adding three pass breakups and a fumble recovery. He also returned an interception 70 yards for a touchdown during a 21-14 victory at Maritime Sept. 29. A member of the 2012 Capital One/College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Football Academic All-District 2 Team, he is tied for ninth in the league in tackles/game (7.8), and in 38 career contests and 32 starts, he has collected 188 tackles (78 solo, 3.0 TFL), five interceptions, 10 pass breakups, two fumble recoveries and a fumble forced.
Hodges leads the NJAC and ranks 25th in Division III in punt returns (12.2 yards/return), adding 47 tackles (22 solo, 1.0 sack) to rank fourth for the WP defense. The Nov. 11 NJAC Defensive Player of the Week, he is tied for the team lead with 4.5 stops for a loss and five pass breakups this fall, adding an interception and a fumble recovered. In two seasons as a Pioneer, Hodges has started 11 of 19 games, tallying 81 tackles (36 solo, 5.5 TFL, 1.0 sack), three interceptions, 11 pass breakups and two fumble recoveries.
Cordato has started all nine contests this fall, ranking second for WP with 27 receptions (274 yards, one touchdown). In 30 career games (26 starts), he has caught 56 passes for 614 yards and three scores.
Matthews has started all nine contests as a senior, primarily at right tackle. In 39 career appearances, he has started 29 times.
Geer has started all nine games this fall at defensive tackle, registering 35 tackles (10 solo, 3.5 TFL), including a team-best 2.5 sacks, and a fumble forced and recovered. In 23 career games and 18 starts, he has posted 80 stops (27 solo, 9.0 TFL, 4.5 sacks), a fumble forced and a fumble recovered.
Gresik is 154-for-257 for 1,865 yards and 13 touchdowns, starting all nine contests under center. Also carrying 68 times for 114 yards and two scores, he ranks third in the NJAC in passing efficiency (132.9) and fourth in passing yardage (207.2 yards/game) and total offense (219.9 yards/game). In 27 career contests (22 starts), he is 342-for-593 for 3,837 yards and 23 touchdowns.
William Paterson (4-5, 2-5 NJAC) will finish the season at FDU-Florham Friday, Nov. 16, at 7:00 p.m.
