Tennis Runs Win Streak to Three

Pioneers Defeat Rutgers-Newark, 5-4

Junior Sonja Pedersen provided the deciding team point with a 1-6, 7-5, 7-5 win at fifth singles at Rutgers-Newark.

NEWARK, N.J. – The William Paterson tennis team (3-2, 2-2 NJAC) ran its winning streak to three matches with a 5-4 victory at Rutgers-Newark (3-3, 1-3 NJAC) Sept. 27.

Junior Sonja Pedersen (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) provided the deciding team point, defeating Agnes Bangayan, 1-6, 7-5, 7-5 at fifth singles.

Junior Christina Puleo (Leonia, N.J./Leonia) defeated Bushra Memon, 6-3, 6-3 at first singles, and sophomore Samantha Miller (West Keansburg, N.J./Raritan) earned a 6-4, 6-1 win at second singles against Ashley Lawrence. 

Puleo and Miller were 8-6 winners against Memon and Camille Sunga at first doubles.  Freshman Jessica Daniels (Edison, N.J./Edison) and sophomore Mary Skretkowicz (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) defeated Michelle Kvitnitsky and Adrianne Vizcarra, 8-3, at third doubles.

The Pioneers will host Drew Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 4:00 p.m.
