Joe Maddolin's (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) overtime goal gave the William Paterson men's soccer team (10-2-2, 4-1-1 NJAC) a 3-2 victory at The College of New Jersey (4-6-4, 0-4-2 NJAC) Oct. 12.
Maddolin's header scored the game-ending goal off a corner kick by
Matt Nigro (Morganville, N.J./Marlboro) with 1:28 remaining in the first overtime period.
The College of New Jersey scored just 10 minutes into the match as Vince McEnroe sent a ground pass off a corner kick to the top of the box. Taylor Gregory streaked in and ripped a shot into the top left-hand corner of the net for a 1-0 advantage.
In the 41st minute of play, Maddolin tossed a throw-in that found the head of senior forward
Anthony Ferrer (Lake Hiawatha, N.J./Parsippany), who buried his 13th goal of the season to even the match.
Five minutes into the second half, the Lions found the back of the net again on a finish by Ryan Sullivan, putting TCNJ ahead, 2-1.
With just over 10 minutes to play,
Michael Encarnacion (Franklin, N.J./Passaic County Tech) collected a rebound off the crossbar and fired a shot into the right corner to knot the game at 2-2.
Senior
Zach Collins (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) recorded five saves in his 10th victory of the season for the Pioneers. TCNJ's goalkeeper Matt Frederick finished the game with six saves.
William Paterson will return to action Saturday, Oct. 15, hosting No. 11 Rutgers-Camden at 4:00 p.m.
