Box Score

WAYNE, N.J. – Junior guard BriAnna Lucas (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) scored her 1000th career point, part of a 22-point, 10-assist effort during an easy 87-59 win by the No. 24 William Paterson women's basketball team (12-2, 3-1 NJAC) against visiting Rowan (6-7, 1-2 NJAC) Jan. 8.

Lucas became the 19th Pioneer to reach the 1,000-point plateau with a layup with 1:51 remaining in the first half. She currently has 1,013 points to rank 19th at William Paterson. The current New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Player of the Week, junior forward April Smith (Barnegat, N.J./Southern Regional) posted 26 points and nine rebounds, while freshman guard Floriana Borova (Cresskill, N.J./Cresskill), sophomore forward Tatiana Javis (Newark, N.J./ Bloomfield Tech) and freshman guard Kristine Jackiewicz (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) scored eight points apiece. Freshman forward Jewell Palmer (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) led all players with 10 rebounds.

William Paterson turned an 18-17 deficit into a 38-23 lead during a 4:24 span during the first half, and the Pioneers' 51-27 halftime advantage was its largest lead of the opening stanza. WP owed much of its first-half success to 19-for-40 (.475) percent shooting, including a 9-for-20 (.450) effort from three-point range, while limiting the Profs to a 35.7 (10-27) field-goal percentage and turning 12 Rowan turnovers into 15 points.

The Pioneers' lead grew to as many as 32 during the second half, including an 87-55 score with 2:42 to play. William Paterson finished with a 52-32 rebounding edge (24-14 offensive) and a 32-16 margin in bench points.

Junior Lauren Gregg was the only Prof in double figures with 12 points. Brittany Baum and Gina Catanzariti each contributed eight points and seven rebounds.

William Paterson will visit New Jersey City Wednesday, Jan. 12, at 6:00 p.m.
