UNION, N.J. – William Paterson (16-21-1, 6-12 NJAC) saw its season come to an end with 17-9 and 10-4 losses at No. 17 Kean (28-10, 13-5 NJAC) in the baseball regular-season finale for both schools May 1.

GAME ONE
The Cougars jumped out to an 8-0 lead after two innings and cruised to a 17-9 opening victory.

A bases-loaded walk, a Matt Norton (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) RBI-single and a run-scoring grounder allowed the Pioneers to cross the plate three times in the fourth. After Kean posted three runs during both the fourth and fifth innings, William Paterson used two errors and three hits, including a three-run double off the bat of Frank Franco (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills), to make it a 14-7 score. Four straight singles allowed WP to push across its final two runs in the ninth.

Senior Miguel Lugo (Jersey City, N.J./St. Mary's) was 3-for-5, sophomore Anthony Dorio (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst) went 3-for-6, and Franco finished 2-for-6 with three RBI. Freshman Jacob Baron (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) took the loss (5-1), giving up 11 runs and 10 hits in 4.0 innings. Greg Baker (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson Regional) tossed 3.0 innings and surrendered six runs (five earned) on eight hits. Ryan VanderMay (West Caldwell, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) pitched a perfect eighth inning.

GAME TWO
Kean finished off the sweep with a 10-4 win in the night cap behind the strength of a five-run first inning.

Senior Andrue Laugerre (Jersey City, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) delivered Dorio with a first-inning single, but that lead was short lived as Kean struck back with five runs during the bottom half of the inning.

After the Cougars tacked on a single run in the second, sophomore Jack Montanile (Weehawken, N.J./Hudson Catholic) doubled in Laguerre, and VanderMay knocked in Montanile with a base hit up the middle, for a 6-3 score in the middle of the third.

Kean crossed the plate four more times during their next three at-bats. The Pioneers finished the scoring when an eighth-inning Jonattan Fernandez (Paterson, N.J./Sports Business Academy) double pushed across Norton.

Laguerre and Montanile each contributed a pair of hits for William Paterson. Freshman James Young (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) fell to 1-3 after allowing nine hits and eight runs (six earned) in 4.0 innings on the mound. Dan Alcala (Totowa, N.J./Passaic Valley), Ryan Steidl (Randolph, N.J./Morris Knolls) and Bryce Warden (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) combined to give up two runs over the final 4.0 innings.
