WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson (16-5-1) swept past host Drew (7-15), 10-0 in five innings and 4-2, in non-conference softball action April 8.

GAME ONE
William Paterson churned out 10 hits, including three for extra bases, for a 10-0, five-inning victory during the day's first contest.

The Pioneers broke through with four runs in the top of the third, the first coming via a Jenna Vitale (Kenilworth, N.J./David Brearley) bases-loaded sacrifice fly. Sophomore Raquel Roder (Hoboken, N.J./Hoboken) later scored on a Lindsey Nadolny (Belford N.J./Middletown North) groundout, and Christina Zippler (Blackwood, N.J./Washington Twp.) and Heather Mendez (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) trotted home after a Lacey Santone (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) single.

Two runners crossed the plate after a two-out error by the Drew defense, making it a 6-0 score in the fourth. Run-scoring singles by Kaitlyn Brock (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) and Zippler, as well as a two-run Roder triple, finished the scoring in the top of the fifth.

Roder was 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBI and three runs scored. Junior Jillian Mulderig (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) was 2-for-3 and crossed the plate once, and Zippler went 2-for-4 with a RBI and run scored. Sophomore Michele Graham (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) struck out five and allowed two hits in 5.0 innings for the victory (9-5).

GAME TWO
Three runs during its first at-bat helped William Paterson earn the sweep with a 4-2 win during the night cap.

Roder led off the game with a walk, stole second and scored after a Zippler single and error by the Rangers' left fielder. Zippler later crossed the plate after another Drew error, and Santone drove in Mendez with a base hit to right field.

One hit and two Pioneer errors led to a pair of Ranger runs during the home half of the second, but William Paterson added an insurance run in the top of the seventh, thanks to a Mendez double and another error by Drew.

Santone led the WP offense with a 3-for-4 effort, driving in one run. Zippler went 2-for-4, and Mendez was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs. Vitale picked up the complete-game win (6-0), surrendering two unearned runs on two hits, striking out five and walking one.

William Paterson will play a conference doubleheader at Ramapo Saturday, April 10, at 1:00 p.m.
