EWING, N.J. – A pair of strong pitching performances led No. 9 The College of New Jersey (23-5, 9-1 NJAC) to a softball doubleheader sweep of visiting William Paterson (20-9-1, 5-5 NJAC), 3-0 and 7-1, April 17.

GAME ONE
Ashley Minervini pitched a complete-game five-hitter to propel TCNJ to an opening 3-0 victory.

A two-out RBI-single gave the Lions a 1-0 first-inning advantage, and Crystal Lee's solo homer made it a 2-0 score after five. A double, sacrifice and groundout manufactured the final run during the home half of the sixth inning.

Senior shortstop Lacey Santone (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) was 2-for-3 at the plate to pace William Paterson, while Kelly Hommen was 2-for-3 for the Lions. Minervini improved to 10-4, striking out five Pioneers. Sophomore Michele Graham (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) fell to 11-7, giving up three runs on five hits while striking out five and walking one.

GAME TWO
The Lions scored in five of their seven at-bats, steadily pulling away for a 7-1 win in the night cap. After a scoreless first inning, The College of New Jersey got on the scoreboard with a RBI-single in the second, and tacked on two more in the third for a 3-0 edge. Lee tripled in a run and Ashley Sogluizzo hit a run-scoring base hit during the fourth frame before the Lions scored again with another RBI-single in the fifth, making it a 6-0 count. TCNJ finished its scoring with an error and double to plate a runner in the seventh.

William Paterson got on the scoreboard during the bottom half of the seventh inning after junior Lindsey Nadolny (Belford N.J./Middletown North) drew a leadoff walk and classmate Heather Mendez (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) hit a double down the left-field line.

Junior Nicole Jimmerson (North Bergen, N.J./High Tech) and sophomore Raquel Roder (Hoboken, N.J./Hoboken) each led off innings with doubles, while senior Christina Zippler (Blackwood, N.J./Washington Twp.) contributed a triple. Junior Jenna Vitale (Kenilworth, N.J./David Brearley) started inside the circle (7-2), surrendering five runs (four earned) on seven hits in 3.2 innings. Graham gave up one run and two hits in 1.0 inning of relief, and freshman Jaclyn Masterson (Park Ridge, N.J./Park Ridge) finished with 2.1 innings of two-hit ball, allowing one unearned run.

Lauren Fitzsimmons improved to 13-0 after scattering four hits over 7.0 innings, collecting five strikeouts and one walk. Lee was 3-for-5 with a RBI and two runs scored to lead TCNJ at the dish.

William Paterson will host Montclair State Tuesday, April 20, at 3:00 p.m.
