EWING, N.J. – A pair of strong pitching performances led No. 9 The College of New Jersey (23-5, 9-1 NJAC) to a softball doubleheader sweep of visiting William Paterson (20-9-1, 5-5 NJAC), 3-0 and 7-1, April 17.
GAME ONE
Ashley Minervini pitched a complete-game five-hitter to propel TCNJ to an opening 3-0 victory.
A two-out RBI-single gave the Lions a 1-0 first-inning advantage, and Crystal Lee's solo homer made it a 2-0 score after five. A double, sacrifice and groundout manufactured the final run during the home half of the sixth inning.
Senior shortstop
Lacey Santone (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) was 2-for-3 at the plate to pace William Paterson, while Kelly Hommen was 2-for-3 for the Lions. Minervini improved to 10-4, striking out five Pioneers. Sophomore
Michele Graham (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) fell to 11-7, giving up three runs on five hits while striking out five and walking one.
GAME TWO
The Lions scored in five of their seven at-bats, steadily pulling away for a 7-1 win in the night cap. After a scoreless first inning, The College of New Jersey got on the scoreboard with a RBI-single in the second, and tacked on two more in the third for a 3-0 edge. Lee tripled in a run and Ashley Sogluizzo hit a run-scoring base hit during the fourth frame before the Lions scored again with another RBI-single in the fifth, making it a 6-0 count. TCNJ finished its scoring with an error and double to plate a runner in the seventh.

Lindsey Nadolny (Belford N.J./Middletown North) drew a leadoff walk and classmate
Heather Mendez (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) hit a double down the left-field line.

Jaclyn Masterson (Park Ridge, N.J./Park Ridge) finished with 2.1 innings of two-hit ball, allowing one unearned run.
Lauren Fitzsimmons improved to 13-0 after scattering four hits over 7.0 innings, collecting five strikeouts and one walk. Lee was 3-for-5 with a RBI and two runs scored to lead TCNJ at the dish.
