Box Score

TROY, N.Y. – The William Paterson baseball team (13-12-1) suffered a 15-4 loss at RPI (12-9) April 15.

The Engineers, who fell out of the national rankings this week, posted four runs during the bottom of the first before opening up a 10-0 lead with a six-run fifth. The Pioneers got on the scoreboard with a single run during the top of the sixth inning, as sophomore Jack Montanile (Weehawken, N.J./Hudson Catholic) reached base on an error, moved to second after a Vin Fondacaro (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Twp.) single, and scored via an Anthony Dorio (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst) double.

After RPI posted one run in the sixth and four more in the seventh, WP crossed the plate three times during the top of the eighth. Freshman Joe Fiorino's (Glen Cove, N.Y./Glen Cove) ground-rule double scored Matt Norton (Livingston, N.J./Livingston), Fondacaro squeezed in Montanile, and Fiorino later trotted home after a single up the middle off the bat of sophomore Rob Somers (West Long Branch, N.J./Shore Regional).

Dorio was the only Pioneer with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-5 with a double and a run-batted-in. The first of five pitchers used on the day, junior Ryan Steidl (Randolph, N.J./Morris Knolls) dropped to 2-2 after allowing 10 runs on 10 hits, walking three and striking out two in 4.1 innings.

The Pioneers will host New Jersey City Friday, April 16, at 3:30 p.m.
