MAHWAH, N.J. – William Paterson (16-7-1, 3-3 NJAC) fell to .500 in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) softball play with 9-1 (six innings) and 6-3 losses at Ramapo (12-10, 3-3 NJAC) April 10.

GAME ONE
The Roadrunners took control early, crossing the plate eight times during the first three innings en route to a 9-1, six-inning victory.

Ramapo used a run-scoring error and a RBI-single to take a 2-0 first-inning lead, and a two-run Danielle Rothenberger base hit to left field helped make it a 5-0 score after two.

Samantha Koenig (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) delivered a pinch-hit single, advanced to second on a passed ball and scored after a Christina Zippler (Blackwood, N.J./Washington Twp.) base hit to right, getting William Paterson on the scoreboard during the top of the third. However, the Roadrunners immediately answered with three more runs during the home half of the inning, including a Katie Donnelly run-scoring triple, to put the contest out of reach.

Five different Pioneers each contributed a hit, while sophomore Michele Graham (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) took the loss (9-6) after allowing six runs (four earned) and eight hits in 2.1 innings. Freshman Kelsey Hand (Mountainville, N.Y./Cornwall Central) pitched the final 3.0 innings, giving up four hits and three runs (two earned).

Donnelly was 3-for-4 with a triple, three runs scored and a RBI to lead Ramapo. Deanna Giordano improved to 5-5, surrendering one unearned run and five hits in 6.0 innings while registering seven strikeouts.

GAME TWO
Ramapo once again jumped out to an early lead, this time 4-0 by the middle of the fourth inning, to help carry the Roadrunners to a 6-3 victory.

Rothenberger hit a two-run homer during the top of the first, and Jaclyn Giangrande added a solo shot in the third, for a 3-0 Ramapo advantage. Rothernberger then hit her second home run of the day, this one to lead off the top of the fourth, for a 4-0 edge.

Junior Lindsey Nadolny (Belford N.J./Middletown North) started the bottom of the frame with a base hit to center field, was sacrificed to second and crossed the plate after a Nicole Jimmerson (North Bergen, N.J./High Tech) base hit to get William Paterson on the scoreboard. The Pioneers made it a 4-2 score during the bottom of the fifth, thanks to Lacey Santone's (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) fifth home run of the season.

Rachel Wong started off the sixth inning with the Roadrunners' fourth round-tripper of the game, and a later RBI-single handed the home team a 6-2 advantage. The Pioneers scored the day's final run on a Santone bases-loaded fielder's choice.

Nadolny went 2-for-3 and Zippler was 2-for-4 for WP. Junior Jenna Vitale (Kenilworth, N.J./David Brearley) suffered her first loss of the season (6-1), giving up six runs (five earned) and eight hits in 5.2 innings. Freshman Jaclyn Masterson (Park Ridge, N.J./Park Ridge) tossed the final 1.1 scoreless innings.

Rothenberger was 2-for-4 with her two home runs, contributing three RBI. Wong finished 3-for-4 and scored twice. Lyndsay Buehler was the winner inside the circle (7-2), allowing three runs on eight hits in 7.0 innings of work.

William Paterson will play a conference twin bill at Kean Tuesday, April 12, at 3:00 p.m.
