Baseball Finishes Florida Trip with 15-7 Loss

Pioneers Fall to Anderson

AUBURNDALE, FLA. – William Paterson (5-6-1) finished play at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational with a 15-7 loss to Anderson March 19.

Senior Mike Moran (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Twp.) was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. Classmate Mike Guadango (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands) went 2-for-4 and contributed a double and two runs-batted-in, and seniors Miguel Lugo (Jersey City, N.J./St. Mary's) and Andrue Laguerre (Jersey City, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) each added two hits and a pair of runs scored.

The Ravens struck for four runs in the top of the first, but the Pioneers answered with four scores of their own during their first at-bat, including a Guadango two-run double, a Moran run-scoring two-bagger and a Jack Montanile (Weehawken, N.J./Hudson Catholic) sacrifice fly.

Anderson responded with single runs in the second and third to build a 6-4 lead before William Paterson pushed across a run with a Moran third-inning sac fly. The Ravens took control with a three-run triple in the top of the fifth and six more scores during the ninth.

Six different Pioneers took the hill, including starter James Young (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne), who fell to 1-1 after allowing eight hits and six runs (five earned) in 2.0 innings.

The Pioneers will visit Manhattanville Tuesday, March 23, at 3:30 p.m.
