KISSIMMEE, FLA. – Head coach Hallie Cohen earned her 600th career victory as the No. 19 William Paterson softball team (5-1) defeated Endicott, 2-0, and Fontbonne, 3-2 in eight innings, March 16 at the Rebel Spring Games.

Cohen, who owns a 600-361-3 record in her 31st season as a coach, started the year 12th overall and eighth among active coaches in Division III victories. She is 405-206-2 in her 16th season at William Paterson.

GAME ONE
Junior Jenna Vitale (Kenilworth, N.J./David Brearley) pitched the complete-game shutout and hit a RBI-double to lift William Paterson to a 2-0 victory against Endicott.

Senior Christina Zippler (Blackwood, N.J./Washington Twp.) put up an unearned run when she hit a one-out single in the bottom of the first, stole second, advanced to third on a Lindsey Nadolny (Belford N.J./Middletown North) base hit and crossed the plate after an error by the Endicott catcher. Vitale later made it a 2-0 score in the third when she doubled in Nadolny from first base.

Nadolny and junior Heather Mendez (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) were each 2-for-2. Vitale scattered six hits and struck out one hitter while walking two in 7.0 innings inside the circle.

GAME TWO
Vitale's sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth was the difference in a 3-2 win against Fontbonne.

William Paterson scored single runs during each of its first two at-bats, the first thanks to a Nadolny run-scoring double and the second after junior Nicole Jimmerson (North Bergen, N.J./High Tech) stole home.

Fontbonne tied the game with a RBI-single in the third, and knocked out three consecutive hits to produce a run in the sixth. After Zippler was placed on second to start the top of the eighth inning, Nadolny sacrificed her to third and Vitale hit a sac fly to left for the go-ahead run.

Five different Pioneers accounted for the team's five hits, and sophomore Michele Graham (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) picked up the victory (2-1) by striking out five and giving up two runs on eight hits in 8.0 innings.

The Pioneers will take on Anderson (3:00 p.m.) and St. Norbert (5:00 p.m.) Wednesday, March 17, at the Rebel Spring Games.
