KISSIMMEE, FLA. – No. 19 William Paterson (1-1) started its season with a split of a pair of contests at the Rebel Spring Games March 13. The Pioneers defeated Westminster, Pa., 1-0, and lost to Adrian, 1-0.

GAME ONE
Senior Christina Zippler (Blackwood, N.J./Washington Twp.) scored the game's lone run in the bottom of the first as the Pioneers defeated Westminster.

Zippler led off the home half of the inning with a walk, advanced to second after a Jillian Mulderig (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) bunt single, moved to third on a Jenna Vitale (Kenilworth, N.J./David Brearley) sacrifice and scored on a Nicole Walls (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown Regional) groundout.

Vitale gave up just two hits in the complete-game victory (1-0), striking out four without issuing a walk. Sophomore Raquel Roder (Hoboken, N.J./Hoboken) was 2-for-3 to lead the Pioneers at the plate. Mulderig and Vitale also added base hits.

GAME TWO
Two errors in the bottom of the fourth handed Adrian a 1-0 victory against William Paterson. Sophomore Michele Graham (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) was the hard-luck loser (0-1), giving up one unearned run and one hit while collecting four strikeouts in 6.0 innings.

A leadoff error, a sacrifice and another error allowed Adrian to push across the game's only run. William Paterson threatened with runners on second and third and two outs in the fifth, but the Pioneers could not score the tying run.

Walls, Vitale, Roder and junior Nicole Jimmerson (North Bergen, N.J./High Tech) accounted for WP's four hits.

The Pioneers will take on Simpson (3:00 p.m.) and McDaniel (5:00 p.m.) Sunday, March 14, at the Rebel Spring Games.
