Four in Double Figures during No. 7/8 Women's Basketball's 67-50 Victory

Pioneers Pull Away from Visiting Ramapo

WAYNE, N.J. – Sophomore BriAnna Lucas (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) scored 21 points to lead four Pioneers in double figures as No. 7/8 William Paterson (21-1, 9-1 NJAC) pulled away from Ramapo (8-13, 2-8 NJAC) for a 67-50 victory on Feb. 3.

Walking into the locker room at the half with a four-point lead (28-24), it was a second-half explosion that propelled William Paterson to the win. The Pioneers came out in the second half with a hot hand, shooting 42.9 (12-28)percent from the field. William Paterson went on a 12-4 run to start the second half, giving the Pioneers a 12-point advantage (40-28) with 13:33 remaining in the game. The Pioneers led by as much as 21 points in the second half (59-38, 5:36) and maintained a comfortable lead for the duration of the game, giving William Paterson its seventh straight victory.

Senior Elisa Brown (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) and junior Absatu Mustapha (Somerset, N.J./Franklin) each contributed 10 points and combined for 11 rebounds, while senior Julie Haledjian (Montvale, N.J./Pascack Hills) added 13 points of her own. William Paterson outscored the Roadrunners 20-11 in points off turnovers and aided its starting five by contributing 19 points off the bench.

The Roadrunners had the advantage in the paint, outscoring the Pioneers 28-20. Freshman forward Meghan Reilly led Ramapo in scoring with 14 points, while junior Danielle Beam grabbed 12 rebounds and sophomore Lindsey Grippenburg posted 10 tallies for the Roadrunners.

William Paterson will visit Rutgers-Newark Wednesday, Feb. 10, at 6:00 p.m.
