WAYNE, N.J. – Head coach
Ed Gurka earned his 600th career victory as the William Paterson men's swimming and diving team (8-1) defeated Division II Adelphi (2-3), 131-97, Dec. 11 at Wightman Pool. The Pioneer women also defeated the Panthers, 129-84.
Gurka owns a 600-299-3 record during his 35th season as the Pioneers' head coach, leading the William Paterson women to a 312-148-3 mark and the men to a 288-151 record.

Andrew Scimeca (Lincoln Park, N.J./Morris County Tech) won the one-meter (218.05) and three-meter (211.8) dives to pace William Paterson.
Tyler Grady (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional),
Mazen Yousef (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East),
Jeremy Lim (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) and
Brian Birkbeck (Absecon, N.J./Holy Spirit) posted a win in the 200 medley relay (1:45.81), and
Christopher Ropka (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional),
Sebastian Schrils (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills Regional),
Edward Zappile (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Twp.) and Birkbeck finished first in the 200 free relay (1:34.23).
Zappile had a pair of excellent swims, placing second in the 500 (5:09.52) and 1,000 (10:46.33) frees. Birkbeck was second in the 100 (52.07) and 200 (1:54.78) frees, and Schrils was just out-touched to finish second in the 50 free (22.81).
William Paterson will return to action Wednesday, Jan. 19, at Queens at 6:00 p.m.
