SELINSGROVE, PA. – The William Paterson field hockey team (4-10) scored the first two goals but could not hold off hard-charging Susquehanna (9-6), suffering a 4-2 loss to the host Crusaders Oct. 16.

William Paterson jumped out to a 2-0 lead over the first 11:57 of the game. The Pioneers forced eight penalty corners during the first 11 minutes of play, which led to the two quick goals. Freshman Jaclyn Bertos (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) knocked in a centering pass from classmate Jacqui Giammetta (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) during the ninth minute, and then Bertos provided the assist for a Danielle Meade (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) goal and a 2-0 lead in the 12th minute.

Junior midfield Anna Spisak recorded the first goal for the Crusaders off a centering pass from senior forward Rebecca Entwistle five minutes later. Sophomore midfielder Ally Bradley knotted the game at 2-2 less than three minutes before halftime after a corner was passed around the offensive zone. The ball eventually found Entwistle, who took a shot, but was deflected by junior back Diana Mask. Mask picked up the assist on the Bradley score.

Twelve minutes into the second half, Susquehanna took the lead for the first time in the game. Entwistle was on the other end of a goal, notching her third score of the season. The senior converted a pass from freshman forward Danielle Waleko on the right side of the cage.

Two minutes later, Waleko netted the insurance goal off a corner. Bradley's initial pass to senior back Julia Amendola was swung around the scoring zone to Waleko, whose shot found the back of the cage.

For the remainder of the game, SU played strong defense and only allowed the Pioneers to take three shots over the final 20 minutes of play. Junior Erin Ferguson picked her up sixth win of the season, making five saves. Junior Meghan Trivett (Highlands, N.J./Middletown North) had four saves for the Pioneers, and was helped by a defensive save from Mary O'Connor (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey).

William Paterson will play at No. 13 Rowan Saturday, Oct. 23, at 1:00 p.m.
