Box Score

WAYNE, N.J. – The College of New Jersey (6-5-2, 3-1-1 NJAC) pulled off a 1-0 upset of No. 25 William Paterson (9-2-2, 4-1-1 NJAC) Oct. 13 in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) men's soccer action at Pioneer Soccer Park.

Junior Ray Nelan handed the Lions the early advantage when he drilled a shot from the left wing into the back of the Pioneer goal, converting an Anthony DiPalmo through ball less than four minutes into the contest.

William Paterson had two quality chances during the first half, the first a Julian Valerio (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) header off a corner kick that Philip Cunha cleared off the line with 15 minutes remaining. The Pioneers later could not take advantage of a scramble and open net with less than eight minutes left when TCNJ keeper Adam Friedman was down outside the box.

William Paterson's best chance of the second half came when Friedman was issued a yellow card and the Pioneers were awarded a penalty kick with 7:11 remaining, but Valerio's shot to the left side of the goal was turned away by the Lions' net minder.

Junior Zach Collins (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) had seven saves for the Pioneers, and Friedman made four stops for the Lions. The loss snapped the Pioneers' 11-match unbeaten streak.

The Pioneers will play Rutgers-Camden Saturday, Oct. 16, at 3:00 p.m.
