Cook Posts Double-Double in Victory

WAYNE, N.J. – No. 11/13 William Paterson (15-1, 3-1 NJAC) rolled past visiting Rutgers-Newark (7-9, 2-3 NJAC) for a 74-36 women's basketball victory Jan. 13.

Rutgers-Newark took a 14-13 lead following a Jared Tactuk three-pointer 9:03 into the first half, but the Pioneers answered with a three from freshman Lindsey Callander (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville), a BriAnna Lucas (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) trey and a Julie Haledjian (Montvale, N.J./Pascack Hills) jumper, an 8-0 run that gave William Paterson a 21-14 edge 8:27 before halftime. The Pioneers put together another run, this one an 8-1 spurt, to enter the locker room with a 33-22 advantage.

William Paterson held the Scarlet Raiders without a field goal for nine minutes during the second half, turning a 52-32 score into a 71-33 advantage with 2:12 to play. William Paterson finished the contest with a 42.5 (31-73) percent shooting effort overall and an 8-for-19 (.421) night from three-point range while holding Rutgers-Newark to 29.5 (13-44) percent shooting from the floor overall and 17.6 (3-17) shooting from beyond the arc. WP owned a 48-34 advantage on the boards and a 12-25 edge in turnovers.

Senior Erin Cook (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) notched a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Pioneers. Haledjian posted 15 tallies and five steals, and Lucas and senior Elisa Brown (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) each scored 12 points.

Senior Courtney Vacca tallied 11 points and 11 rebounds for Rutgers-Newark. Tactuk scored 13 tallies, and junior Martyna Ruminska added seven points.

The Pioneers will host Richard Stockton Saturday, Jan. 16, at 3:00 p.m.
