WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson (19-3) earned victories for the 13th time during the last 15 games, sweeping Drew (8-17), 8-0 in five innings and 4-2, on April 9 at Pioneer Softball Field.

GAME ONE
Sophomore Jenna Vitale (Kenilworth, N.J./David Brearley) held the Rangers to just three hits over 5.0 innings, striking out two hitters and walking a pair during an 8-0, five-inning victory.

The Pioneers wasted no time building a lead, scoring three runs during the home half of the first inning. Junior Christina Zippler (Blackwood, N.J./Washington Twp.) led off with a single and was sacrificed to second by senior Meghan Reilly (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) before a Lindsey Nadolny (Belford, N.J./Middletown North) base hit sent her home for a 1-0 lead. Vitale followed with a bomb over the left-center field fence, her second home run of the year to give WP a 3-0 edge.

Run-scoring singles by Heather Mendez (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) and Ashlie Gaynor (Berlin, N.J./Eastern) made it a 5-0 score after three innings. Pinch hitter Linda Hahn (Sewell, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) belted a bases-loaded double to left-center, driving in all three runners and ending the game in the bottom of the fifth.

Nadolny was 2-for-2 with a double, RBI and two runs scored, and Gaynor went 2-for-3 and scored a run while driving in another.

Sophomore Adriana Durso took the loss for the Rangers (4-6), allowing eight runs on nine hits in 4.2 innings. Vitale improved to 5-1 inside the circle for the Pioneers.

GAME TWO
William Paterson held off a seventh-inning rally by the Rangers to secure a 4-2 win.

Freshman Raquel Roder (Hoboken, N.J./Hoboken) singled, stole second and scored thanks to a Vitale single up the middle, staking William Paterson to a 1-0, first-inning lead. The Pioneers then used three hits and a Drew error to manufacture two runs during the third, the two scores courtesy of RBI-singles by Roder and Nadolny.

A Nadolny triple to right-center field, coupled with a Vitale base hit to center, stretched the William Paterson lead to 4-0 in the fifth. Drew used three straight singles to load the bases with one out in the top of the seventh. A Pioneer error allowed Katie Mulligan to score, followed by a Jillian Lusk single to left field that plated Kati Eggert to make it a 4-2 margin. Freshman Michele Graham (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) came on in relief and induced a flyout and a groundout during the next two at-bats to end the Rangers' comeback hopes.

Vitale was 2-for-3 and drove in two runs, Nadolny went 2-for-3 with a triple, and Roder was 2-for-4 while scoring twice.

Lusk and Nicole Spiotta each had two hits for Drew.

Sophomore Kerrie Mascarelli (Montvale, N.J./Pascack Hills) allowed eight hits and two runs (one earned) in 6.1 innings to earn the win (5-0), while Graham picked up her second save of the year. Senior Lauren Collini pitched the complete game for the Rangers (2-5), surrendering nine hits and four runs (three earned).

William Paterson will host a doubleheader against The College of New Jersey Saturday, April 11, at 1:00 p.m.
