Box Score

LA PLUME, Pa. – Junior Miguel Lugo (Jersey City, N.J./St. Mary's) and freshman Ryan VanderMay (West Caldwell, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) each had two hits as the William Paterson baseball team (12-12) lost at Keystone (22-4), 13-8, on April 7.

Lugo was 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. VanderMay went 2-for-2 and crossed the plate once for the Pioneers.

Keystone scored three runs during the bottom of the first before WP could answer with a single score during the top of the second, the result of a Marc Palestina (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) RBI-single that plated senior John Elia (Emerson, N.J./Pascack Valley).

Trailing 6-1, William Paterson scored once during the fifth inning after a Will Courter (Roseland, N.J./West Essex) double, a Mike Guadango (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands) fly-out to advance him to third and a run-scoring wild pitch.

The Giants extended their lead with five runs during the home half of the sixth inning. WP's most productive inning was the eighth when six Pioneers trotted home. Sophomore Frank Franco (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) hit his first career round-tripper, a two-run shot, and Lugo drove in a pair of runners with a double to right field.

Freshman J.J. Moran (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley) made his first career start but took the loss (0-1), allowing three runs on five hits during 2.0 innings on the mound.

William Paterson will host New Jersey City Thursday, April 9, at 3:30 p.m.
