Box Score
MADISON, N.J. – William Paterson earned its 20th victory of the season with an 8-3 win at Drew April 22. Freshman
Rob Doughty (Jersey City, N.J./Hudson Catholic) pitched 8.0 innings of four-hit baseball, allowing three runs and two walks while striking out four Rangers.
Senior
Will Courter (Roseland, N.J./West Essex) was 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBI and three runs scored to lead the Pioneer offense. Sophomore
Frank Franco (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) went 2-for-4, hitting a pair of doubles and driving in two runs.
Franco knocked in Courter with his first two-bagger of the day, handing William Paterson a 1-0 first-inning lead. The Pioneers then blew open the game with a five-run second frame. A
Miguel Lugo (Jersey City, N.J./St. Mary's) bases-loaded walk plated the first score, Courter drove in two runners with a single, Lugo scampered home on a wild pitch, and senior
John Elia (Emerson, N.J./Pascack Valley) sent home the final runner with a sacrifice fly to left field, making it a 6-0 score.
Two hits and a pair of errors helped Drew cross the plate twice during the bottom of the third, but a Courter triple and a
Mike Moran (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Twp.) sac fly pushed the Pioneers ahead 7-2 in the fourth.
Two singles and two walks produced a Drew run in the bottom of the fourth, but neither team scored again until the top of the ninth, when Elia led off with a base hit and trotted home thanks to a Franco double.
William Paterson will return to conference action Thursday, April 23, at Montclair State at 3:30 p.m.
