Box Score
WAYNE, N.J. – Tied at 7-7 midway through the fifth inning, William Paterson (11-9, 3-1 NJAC) crossed the plate 10 times during its next two at-bats, pulling away from No. 12 Kean (17-6, 3-2 NJAC) for a 17-11 victory April 2.
William Paterson got on the board first thanks to a
Miguel Lugo (Jersey City, N.J./St. Mary's) leadoff single and a
Will Courter (Roseland, N.J./West Essex) RBI-double to right-center, making it a 1-0 score after one inning.
Senior Mike Manganiello drove in freshman Dylan Laguna with a single through the right side of the infield, tying the score during the top of the second. However, the Pioneers crossed the plate six times during the home half of the frame, including a three-run double off Lugo's bat and a two-RBI double to left-center by sophomore
Mike Moran (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Twp.), for a 7-1, second-inning edge.
The Cougars got four of those runs back to start the third inning. Freshman Vinny Galya started things off with a base hit, followed by a D.J. Breckenridge walk and a Michael Mattonelli single to load the bases. Mike Moceri then hit a ball to center field that
John Elia (Emerson, N.J./Pascack Valley) could not handle, allowing Galya to score, and Laguna hit a sacrifice to right field, plating Breckenridge to make it a 7-3 score. Freshman Nick Ramagli then grounded into a fielder's choice, allowing Mattonelli to trot home, and classmate Lee Cavico doubled in Ramagli, for a 7-5 game.
Moceri's fourth-inning sacrifice fly and a Manganiello RBI-single to left during the fifth inning tied the score at 7-7.
William Paterson re-established its lead during its very next at-bat, as Moran was sent home from third base due to a balk, and sophomore
Zak Rose (Nutley, N.J./St. Mary Rutherford) blasted a two-run homer over the left-field fence. The Pioneers then took control of the game with a seven-run sixth, as
Mike Guadango (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands), Moran, and
Rob Somers (West Long Branch, N.J./Shore Regional) all drove in runs with hits during the inning.
Kean crossed the plate four times during the seventh, after Galya and Breckenridge each singled in runs and two more scored on a WP error, for a 17-11 score in the middle of the seventh.
Moran led William Paterson with his 4-for-5 effort, including a double, and he tallied three RBI. Courter was 3-for-4 with a double while scoring twice, Guadango went 3-for-5 and drove in two runs with a double, and Rose was 3-for-5, including his two-run homer, and crossed the plate three times.
Manganiello was 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI for Kean, Cavico went 2-for-4 with a double, and Galya was 2-for-3 while scoring twice.
