Marc Palestina was 2-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs against RPI.
Box Score

WAYNE, N.J. – RPI (15-4) used an eight-run outburst to earn a 13-5, six-inning victory at William Paterson (10-9) in a cold and steady rain April 1.

The Red Hawks struck immediately, when with two runners on base and two outs in the top of the first, Cameron Mamigonian doubled in both men to give RPI a 2-0 edge.

Mike Cieszko homered to left field to lead off the second inning, and a later error and Andrew Krushelnyski fielder's choice allowed two more players to cross home plate, making it a 5-0 Red Hawk edge.

The Pioneers fought back, closing to within a run with a four-run fourth inning. With the bases loaded and zero outs, senior Will Courter (Roseland, N.J./West Essex) trotted home on a wild pitch, followed by a walk to classmate John Elia (Emerson, N.J./Pascack Valley) to again load the bases. A flyout was followed by a Ryan VanderMay (West Caldwell, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) RBI-groundout, and junior Marc Palestina (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) singled in Elia and Mike Moran (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Twp.) with his base hit through the left side of the infield, making it a 5-4 game.

Eleven hitters combined to produce five hits and five walks for a total of eight RPI runs during the top of the fifth inning. Patrick Reardon drove in two runs with his double down the right-field line, and Cieszko, Noah Poissant, Tom Jebb, Sean Wilkes , and Nic Marchese all accounted for RBI during the inning.

Cieszko was 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored. Mamigonian went 2-for-3 while driving in two scores, and Marchese was 2-for-3 as well.

For the Pioneers, Palestina led the offense with a 2-for-3 effort while posting two runs-batted-in.

Andrew Mondo improved to 4-1 with 2.0 innings on the mound, allowing just one hit.

Freshman Rob Doughty (Jersey City, N.J./Hudson Catholic) fell to 1-1 for the Pioneers, giving up five runs (four earned) on five hits in 2.0 innings.
