MAHWAH, N.J. – No. 25 William Paterson (6-0, 1-0 NJAC) withstood a late second-half rally to win its New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) women's basketball season opener at Ramapo (3-2, 0-1 NJAC), 73-66, Dec. 2.

Julie Haledjian (Montvale, N.J./Pascack Hills) led all players with 27 points, seven assists and five steals, shooting 9-for-18 (.500) overall, 3-for-6 (.500) from three-point range and 6-for-6 from the line. Classmate
Elisa Brown (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) contributed 15 tallies and seven rebounds, freshman
Lindsey Callander (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) had 11 points, and senior
Erin Cook (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) collected a game-high 13 rebounds.
The Pioneers owned a 46-26 halftime lead before the Roadrunners put together a 16-6 run late in the second half to make it a four-point contest (65-61) with 3:02 to play. William Paterson answered with back-to-back baskets by
BriAnna Lucas (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) and Brown, but a free throw and a Meghan Reilly jumper made it a two-possession game at 69-64 with 31 seconds left. However, Haledjian was 4-for-4 at the free-throw line during the game's final 15 seconds to put the contest away.
Reilly finished with 18 points and six rebounds for Ramapo. Lindsey Gripenburg added 15 tallies.
William Paterson will host York (N.Y.) Saturday, Dec. 5, at 3:00 p.m.
