MADISON, N.J. – William Paterson's defense forced 31 turnovers as the Pioneer women's basketball team (5-0) cruised to a 79-54 win at FDU-Florham (3-4) Nov. 29.
William Paterson's 20 steals helped force the 31 Devil miscues and resulted in a 34-8 edge in points off turnovers for the Pioneers. WP took excellent care of the basketball themselves (11 turnovers) and used 19 offensive rebounds to score 24 second-chance points.
Junior
April Smith (Barnegat, N.J./Southern Regional) led all players with 20 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore
BriAnna Lucas (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) contributed 16 tallies and five steals, and senior
Julie Haledjian (Montvale, N.J./Pascack Hills) posted 13 points and eight assists.
The Pioneers attacked right from the tip, getting out to a 14-4 lead on their way to a 45-23 halftime advantage. It was more of the same in the second half as the closest FDU would get was 20 points, 45-25, on the first possession of the second stanza.
Senior forward Danielle Michlovsky led the Devils with 15 points and four steals, while sophomore forward Matil Mangual had 12 points.
William Paterson will start New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play Wednesday, Dec. 2, at Ramapo at 5:30 p.m.
