Monahan Earns 300th Career Victory in 85-47 Romp

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Head coach Erin Monahan earned her 300th career victory as the William Paterson women's basketball coach in emphatic fashion, an 85-47 victory against Clark (0-2) during the first round of Bridgewater State's D-Angelo Tip-Off Classic Nov. 20.

Monahan, in her 17th season as her alma mater's coach, now owns a 300-134 career record. She has led the Pioneers to seven NCAA Tournament bids (1993-95, 1997-98, 2007-08), the 1993 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) title and six other berths in the NJAC Tournament title game (1994, 1996-98, 2004, 2007).

William Paterson (2-0) took control from the very start, building a 19-2 lead 7:30 into the contest. The Pioneers cruised into halftime with a 56-27 advantage, causing 19 Cougar turnovers while shooting 53.8 (21-39) percent from the field during the opening stanza.

WP led by as many as 47 points (85-38) in the second stanza before settling for the 38-point victory. In all, the Pioneers scored 34 points off of the 32 Clark miscues, shot 31-for-69 (.449) overall, collected 20 steals and out-rebounded the Cougars, 40-37.

Four Pioneers were in double figures in scoring, led by junior April Smith's (Barnegat, N.J./Southern Regional) 18 tallies. She added six rebounds. Sophomore BriAnna Lucas (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) was 5-for-6 from the floor for 16 points, five assists and two steals, while freshman Lindsey Callander (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) had 11 tallies and senior Julie Haledjian (Montvale, N.J./Pascack Hills) contributed 10 points and three assists.

Sophomore guard Ivory Aiken paced the Cougars with eight points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals.

William Paterson will take on Bridgewater State in the championship game of the D-Angelo Tip-Off Classic Saturday, Nov. 21, at 3:00 p.m.
