DOVER, Del. – Senior
Meghan Hall (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Twp.) paced the Pioneer attack with a hat trick as the William Paterson field hockey team (1-0) began its 2008 season with a 5-0 victory at Wesley (0-1) Aug. 31.
All five of WP's goals came during the second half of play. Hall broke the scoreless tie 3:15 into the period, finding the back of the cage of an assist from junior
Jodi Feriod (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro). Hall added an unassisted strike at the 44:49 mark, followed by a score by junior
Chelsea Winkelspecht (Sicklerville, N.J./Washington Twp.) 1:27 later. Hall then scored her third goal of the day with 16:01 remaining, and sophomore
Amanda Sheehan (Boonton, N.J./Boonton) connected on a
Tina Londino (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester City) pass at the 67:24 mark for her second career goal.
Junior
Christina Auger (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) made seven saves for the shutout. The Pioneers, despite being outshot 14-11, did an excellent job of converting on their chances, as five of their seven shots on goal were scores. Hall's three goals moved her into fifth place on the WP career goals (28) and points (74) lists.
William Paterson will return to action Saturday, Sept. 6, when the Pioneers make their first home appearance of the year when they host SUNY Geneseo at 2:00 p.m.
