Box Score

WAYNE, N.J. – Junior Jillian Kane (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield Park) and sophomore April Smith (Barnegat, N.J./Southern Regional) each scored 19 points, helping the William Paterson women's basketball team (5-2, 1-0 NJAC) overcome a sluggish start and pull away from Rowan (3-3, 1-1 NJAC) for a 75-54 victory Dec. 6 at the Rec Center.

The Profs controlled the game's first 11 minutes and led by as many as four points before the Pioneers put together an 11-2 run to pull ahead by nine (29-18) with 3:31 to play in the first half. William Paterson's advantage was 34-26 at the break, and that lead never dipped below six during the second stanza as the Pioneers shot 40.0 (14-35) percent from the floor during the game's final 20 minutes.

Kane made seven of 10 (.700) attempts overall, and three of four from beyond the arc, to score her 19 points. She added two blocked shots and four rebounds. Smith also was efficient from the field, shooting 8-for-10 (.800) for her 19 tallies while adding a game-best 12 rebounds. Junior Julie Haledjian (Montvale, N.J./Pascack Hills) chipped in eight tallies and five assists, and junior Erin Cook (Princeton, N.J./Princeton), freshman BriAnna Lucas (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) and junior Elisa Brown (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) each scored seven points.

Junior Jessica Nimbley added eight rebounds to her team-high 13 points for Rowan. Senior Ashley Cieplicki and sophomore Gina Catanzariti each contributed 11 points for the Profs.

The Pioneers owed much of their offensive production to their work on the boards, as William Paterson out-rebounded Rowan 50-32 (27-8 offensive) and owned a 22-2 advantage in second-chance points.

William Paterson will return to action Wednesday, Dec. 10, at Staten Island at 6:00 p.m. Rowan will host John Jay Monday, Dec. 8, at 7:00 p.m.
